I've been away for a while and I totally don't get the new "Dashboard"

Where do I go on that to sell $L?

Linden Exchange... on the left sidebar. If you click "Manage" you will see the options.

do a limit sell @ 259 and you will have the us$ in your account in about a day
If you need the us$ faster then sell @ 260 (max. 15 min.)

I'm afraid I am quite clueless about this- I don't actually need the money, was just curious as to how it wd work. Does that mean it is sort of like bidding? Just on a lark say I said 200 - what are the chances of one actually getting more than going rate- how do I find what is going rate- may seem like obvious answers but I have never had to do anythng with any of it.

Lindex is an exchange that works mostly between SL users. Linden Lab sells a little here too, but thats only about 3% of the trades. You are trading between your L$ and US dollar balances.

Market data is found at:
https://secure-web5.secondlife.com/my/lindex/market.php
https://secure-web5.secondlife.com/my/lindex/market.php

There are two kinds of orders you can place, market and limit. Market means you want an immediate trade, which will occur at the current best price offered by other users. If you are selling L$, that means around 269L$ per US$.

Linden Lab collects a fee of 3.5% on sales, and $0.30 US on buys.

So if you sell L$1000, you would get $3.59 net added to your US$ balance.

Your chances of getting more than the going rate are slim, since there standing orders of around 100 million L$ sitting there at those rates. You can either get the standing rates or slightly worse, if you are in a hurry.

It's a currency exchange, Amara. If the going rate is 260L = $1US, and you offer to sell at 200, your order will sit a long, long time...because everyone will go to the shop down the street that's offering the better deal.

The rate does fluctuate a little, but not much, as the market is controlled by LL.

The rates to buy and to sell are different. You can buy lindens for around 270L = $1US, and sell for about 260L = $1 US. This is confusing, until you recall that there is a flat fee for buying $L, and a 3.5% fee for selling them.

Interestingly (maybe), the link to the Xstreet exchange is also present on secondlife.com now. From the dashboard landing page, users might click "Buy L$" or "Manage > Buy L$/Sell L$" to get to the LindeX, or they might click "Shopping > Xstreet Exchange" to get to the Xstreet exchange

I think I sort of get it- i was just thinking about 'cause a few days ago someone wondered about a rush on Lindex and what wd happen to our bux. To now i have been content to let it sit there- wd just hate to wake up one day and find it really was Monopoly money :(

So... if i sell- 5000L's @ 2.60 = (which includes the fee as per your example Lindy, if I understood) I wd find myself a whole 13.00 US richer, right? I did understand that? And of course, 10,000 = 26.00 US and so forth... (if i had been meant to do math i wd have been born with a calculator in hand)

5000l$/260x0.965(commision)=18.55us$
