I am new at actually using secondlife, I have been going around customizing myself and I tried a "demo" body and now it won't come off. I cannot edit it or get rid of it at all. I even bought one, and that won't replace it. I am not sure what to do. I looked through all the menus and can't seem to find any help. I don't wanna be stuck with giant hands and feet and the words demo on me. Any advice or suggestions?

When you want to take off a skin you need to replace it with another skin.
In your inventory top part type word Skin and put on one of the
one's inside your inventory named skin.
It will look like body icon, you need to pick it and wear it like you did
when you put on the demo
It probably be in body parts or avatar
folder but it's been a while so it sort of automatic and I don't remember
exactly.
To change your hands or feet go into appearance by clicking your self and selecting
the word appearance.
Pop up will happen showing different parts of your body and pick like feet
or other body parts to change the "shape" then save item name as whatever
and close the pop up screen.

You mean, you can't replace the demo shape with the shape you bought? Demos shapes are no modify and the sliders don't work on them. You haven't by a mistake, bought 2 demos?
Try open you library and wear one of those shapes.

For the demo skin, it is as FD says. you must replace it. And try your library to get rid of the demo skin.

Demo Shape = Big hands and feet. No modify
Demo Skin = "Demo" written all over.

Body as we call it, is a shape with a skin over.

If you put on another shape, it will replace the one you are wearing. Sometimes when SL is behaving poorly (like tonight!) the change may not appear to happen right away.

Find the shape you want to be wearing in your inventory. If it is marked ";(worn)" then you ARE wearing it - even if it doesnt' appear so right now. It will probably show correctly the next time you log in.

If the one you want is NOT labeled ";(worn)" then double click on it. If it doesnt' change soon, then refer to the paragraph above.

You can force the issue by logging out and back in.

Good luck, have fun!

Yes it sounds like you've tried a demo of a shape, plus a demo skin. Don't panic :)

Shapes are just a set of slider settings to make a certain body and facial shape and the demo ones usually have huge hands and/or feet and are set to not modifiable (to get you to buy the proper more expensive version). If you do buy a custom shape it's a good idea to check it's one that has modify rights because they often need tweaking to get your look the way you want it, especially if you change to a new skin which will alter the look of your face. However you can always make your own by experimenting with the slider positions in Appearance mode.

The skin is a separate item - you wear both a shape and a skin, and they have different icons in your inventory. I can remember getting confused about that as a newbie!

The confusion is understandable. When I started, I didn't find it intuitive that an avatar has both a shape and a skin, and that they are totally seperate things. I can still remember it being explained to me.

Hi Breksta....

You're getting all the right advice here. But I also want to tell you, before you run out and spend/waste lindens on a 'shape'...... look me up in world. I'm about to convert my shop into all feebie shapes because I have created so many and selling them seems silly.

Skin is different....that is literally the layer 'painted' over the avatar 'shape' that gives it definition....like skin tone and makeup. There's plenty of places that offer freebie skins too, to help you get started. But if you want to try a few different shapes......look me up.....I have plenty and they are modifiable so you can practice sculptng your own unique look. ;)

Thank you everyone! All of your advice really helped. I had tried on skin and a body, but I figured out that what I bought was just a body and not skin(I had no clue they were separate). So, lucky I still had enough left to buy some skin too-- since I guess there is a 10$ a month limit on me.

Again, thank you everyone! :)

That $ limit increases very quickly, if you're referring to how many lindens you can purchase. Soon you'll have to limit yourself! Have fun.

Thank you :) That is one thing that is odd. Does the time limit start from when you first buy some cash? Because, although, I did just start using the account, I got it about a year ago or more. I just did not use it then.

If you will meet someone inworld, you use the "search" tab and "people" and type in their name. When you get up their profile, you can send them a IM (instant message). It is tab on their front profile page. You don't need to see someone's avatar on the screen to send them a IM.

If she's not inworld, she get the message when she logs in. Someone has them sent to their email too. (Not me - too much advertising from my groups)

Milla say she has a shop. You can go to her picks, it's the third page in the profile I think? Then you will look for her shop and can teleport there. But she's probably not in SL 24/7 ;)

You need to read freebie blogs to get you looking good without spending a fortune. It's lots of stuff offered for free or very cheap. Like: http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/ and http://fabfree.wordpress.com/

That's correct, the limits on linden dollar purchases don't start going up until you purchase linden dollars on that account. Once you've made your first purchase, the limits do go up quickly.

Also, the limits don't transfer from account to account, so if you make an alt, even if you give it the same RL info as your main, you'll have to start from day 0 on that account. (But it won't affect your main.)
