What medium would snapshots be considered in RL? Has anyone had snapshots enlarged to have them professionally enhanced in RL framed for display? I've taken some high resolution/high pixel rate snapshots and played around with them in PS to where they look really nice. I was thinking about doing this and trying to sell them at our local art gallery. I'd rather try and sell them in a RL art gallery where I could be making $50 as an example, rather then trying to sell here where I would make less then $2.00 per copy, if I'm lucky. I understand though the snapshots may look nice and pretty on my computer, I'm sure having them enlarged would cause the pixel rate to expand where as the edges would look boxed rather then smooth if enlarged to much. I don't know if this can be done or not but if you have done this or have any suggestions I'm all ears. I'll be calling a photography studio today to hear what they say also.

You need to convert the images to a high resolution. After that I think they look nice from a photo printer on quality paper.

Flickr has some business partners who will do that. I sent a friend of mine an uber-cute card from one of them, Zazzle, but they also do larger prints and posters.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Digital manipulation of real-world photography is still photography. Digital source is digital art.
There's a huge market for digital photography blown up to display size. Next time you visit a recently decorated office with photos rather than other wall art, take a closer look. You're likely to see distinct pixels. I imagine you could get much the same large-scale print done of your work at any place with a decent machine. Don't go to Kinko's, look online for the best price, and look for printers, not a photography studio.
The "transfers" discussed in the article are probably giclee prints, inkjet prints of digital images onto prepared canvases using durable inks. If you're in for a pound, it's fairly easy to track down a printer who can generate these for you in any presentation style. Matted, framed, even with a thin coating of a clear acrylic that not only protects the art, but presents a visible impression of brushstrokes on the image.

Being that the snapshots are of various builds residents have done, and even though I reworked and filtered them to close to being abstract would that be a copywrite issue?

From: EmilyAnn Gears Being that the snapshots are of various builds residents have done, and even though I reworked and filtered them to close to being abstract would that be a copywrite issue? I am not a lawyer. I suggest you read up on U.S. copyright issues including fair use, keeping in mind that Second Life isn't publicly viewable. I suggest you do a search through the SL Terms of Service for anything that talks about "copyright" or "intellectual property". I also suggest that you talk about your project with Linden Lab staff and the owners and creators of whatever it is you have been viewing and altering in still image form, all the way to the rocks and the water and the clouds in the sky. Then, only after fully understanding the legal issues at stake, I suggest you go on a wild bender and do whatever the hell your artistic spirit inclines you to do. Or you could do that part first.
