Deletion of Account Question

When someone deletes their Second Life account does that mean their profile is also deleted? I had a friend who deleted their account but their profile is still showing up and they deleted it about a year ago, or thats so I was told. Any answers for this?

It depends on how you look for it.

A deleted account will still show a profile if you look for it via an old Contacts card that you still have in inventory. It will still show up if you click on the "Creator" or "Owner" buttons when editing a prim object that they once created or owned.

A deleted or suspended account will NOT show up if you search for it in-world via the "Search" function.

I deleted an account about two years ago, as in cancel on the website. Right now the Your Account page says "Your current plan: Cancelled". About a year later it showed up again, and to this day I can still log into it, and it shows up in search. So I call it my zombie avatar, since it rose from the dead

Hmm, this got me wondering if LL still must maintain the names in a database since anything created by the person reflects the creator? If a creation is still inworld, there needs to be a creator associated with it, or so I think. Not that I haven't seen blanks in some of the creator fields at times, but I think that's more of a momentary glitch than something where an individual has canceled their account.

Seems that LL would just be 'hiding' it from general view, not really deleting everything from the database.

But, then again, I really don't know.

If you search for it using "Search" as in "new" Search/Search All, it will, but it won't if you use the old People search tab.

I think there is even a time limit on that. I still have the calling cards from some people that have cancelled their account 1 and 2 yrs ago and I can only get their profile via those cards or via an object/notecard/whatever that they created and gave me. I can no longer find them via the old People search or the new All search.

There is a time limit. I think it's 60 days (though I don't know that for sure at all.) I believe that, any time within 60 days of "deleting" your account, you can come back and reactivate it, and your inventory and whatnot will still be there. After that, it's really gone.

That being said, an old friend logged on last night who had not been inworld for like 3 months, and she was able to view the profile of a person whose account is gone for me. I can't find it in either Search All or People Search. I guess it's something to do with caching. So...WFN?
