TP Landing points question

I regularly tp into a sim with a landing point at the front door. Once in there, however, I can bring up the Map and scroll through my LM list and pull up a spot in the sim and TP directly to it. Is this the way it's supposed to work, i.e. to landing points only apply to TP's coming from outside the sim? I would have thought that even TP'ing from the map would put me back at the landing point (I'm glad it doesn't, though). Thanks.

Yes. Sl knows when you are inside or outside a sim. Landing point is for outside only I believe. It is also parcel-based (if there is more than one parcel on the sim) There are many settings available to sim (and parcel) owners. I've been on sims where it tells me I can not TP to other points, others allow you to TP around anywhere.

Parcels can have different landing points, when you say you TP to a sim do you mean you just fire up the sim name and TP there? Sims have landing points, it's often not changed and you can end up in funny places.

Doesn't it also matter whether the land owner has checked that all TPs go to the landing point or that they do not?

If it's YOUR parcel, you ignore the landing point, but only when you're in the sim*. Other people are still restricted to the LP.

* Or some other circumstances that seem to be related to how recently you were in the sim and what mechanism you used to teleport back to it, that I haven't quite figured out.

Parcel landing points do not affect the parcel owner. They do affect everyone else, regardless of weather or not they start from outside the sim or inside. But they only affect TPs relating to that parcel, so you could still to an in-sim TP to some OTHER parcel.

I used to have a nice rented parcel on a private island sim. I happily set up a skybox, set my parcel landing point to the lawn outside my house on the ground, and gave LM's to the skybox to my alts and household members. No one could use the skybox LM's but me. Everyone else wound up on the ground, at the parcel landing point.

Interestingly, if you buy a parcel, and then later deed that parcel to a land group, the landing point remembers you as the last individual "Owner", and that one person, not group members, officers or even the group owner, remains immune to the forced landing point for the parcel.

There's a role ability you can use to give other people that right.

The owner could've done away with the set landing point and could've also chopped each rental into a separate parcel. That should've worked.

er, right?

Could it be related to group roles as well? Before I had a generic role, now it's a different one and I can tp to a "non-landing" point in the sim at will, even from outside by double clicking on my LM. I don't own the sim, just belong to a group that owns it.
