I'm currently working in Photoshop to create my profile pic, however, every time I upload the picture to SL it seems either to be squished or the picture looks to distant. What should the template size in PS be so It comes out perfect?

There are three different aspect ratios for pictures in the Profile.

If I remember right, the 2nd Life tab uses 4:3, the Picks use a square format, and the First Life tab is 16:9 widescreen.

Here's how to make a pic for any of them:

1. Take your pic at full screen resolution. Zoom in close and make it a head and shoulders shot, because the end result is going to be very small. Save the picture to your hard drive.

2. Open the picture in Photoshop or GIMP or your pixel editor of choice. Crop out a segment using the desired aspect ratio of the final image. Copy the cropped area and paste it into a new image.

3. Change the image size to 512x512 pixels, and UNcheck "constrain proportions". If your end use of the image is not square, the image will look squished at this point...but don't worry, it will come out all right in the end.

4. Save your image as a .tga or .png file

5. Upload the image to Second Life. It will cost you L$10.

6. Open your profile and click on the picture area. Browse to your uploaded texture and select it. Select OK and close the profile. You're done!

First Life is the square, picks uses the widescreen format.

I don’t remember where I got this information, but its been pretty helpful:

Profile Pic: 168 x 126 (Use 512x384 or 256x192 for upload)
My Picks: 290 x 164 (Use 512x292 for upload)
1st Life Pic 135x135 (Use 256x256 or 128x128 for upload.)
