Does it cost anything? I don't have lindens or plan to purchase them, so I will never have any clothes or items people sell for actual money.. but can I still make anything I want myself for free if i'm good with photoshop? I can't seem to find a menu in game that lets me upload images as skins if I want.

Well, clothes (Non-prim) use textures. It costs 10 L$ to upload a texture. So yes, it costs, though only for the upload fees.

Just ask someone who's been around, normally we all have tons of stuff to give.

There are some templates here: http://goodies.onrez.com/shop/chipmidnight/ . However, there is a L$10 charge for uploading your texture into SL. (This is to prevent people uploading thousands of textures and overloading the storage space.) Once you have done this, you can make and sell unlimited copies of the item within SL. Note that you can PREVIEW your texture as a piece of clothing by attempting to upload it, even if you don't have the L$10. If you have innovative ideas you should be able to attract investment in the same way as you would IRL. Don't go actively begging, but it's rare for a good new creator to be stuck because they're unable to upload. You can also use (for example) money trees. |

There isn't any way around this - if you want to make your own original clothing designs - its going to cost in uploading the pattern/texture. Also - read through the texture tips forum for a lot of excellent ideas and tips to help you make clothing better - plus some great patterns to use for free.
So you should find ways to make a few lindens - find some 'survey vendors' or camping areas - (As much as I hate to support camping) - its one way to make some LL. (You can also just buy some in game too. _____________________

Cen don't forget that there are roughly L$265 for every USD$1. Even putting USD$10 into the game will keep you rich for a long long time. Here in my neck of the woods that's the cost of one movie.

Maybe I should have thought in terms of lindens.. wow so in real life I make about 9000lindens an hour.. Yay ;P Didn't realize how the exchange rate was. Curious though, how do I upload my own sounds to play in game? I notice people can play quotes and such from TV shows, etc.. Is it also 10$ per sound? |

You can also buy sounds and gestures. I flitted through one store that had sounds and gestures from all sorts of TV shows, from The Simpsons on up. They're fairly inexpensive I think, though I didn't buy any.

When testing is complete.. you will be... MISSED! "Well done, android. The Enrichment Center once again reminds you that android hell is a real place where you will be sent at the first sign of defiance." |

I want to either find or upload the sound files from the video game "Portal" Um.. I.. don't think you'll have too much of a problem finding those already.. ![]() (Although, do remember, technically they should _not_ be in SL, as they're copyrighted.) |

Last I knew, Free Dove was a place to get some really nice free things or for 1L Getting free modern day clothes is so easy. Ive done it. Getting fantasy clothes, like a bard/bardic outfit with insturment, or a monks outfit complete with silk / handwraps is NOT easy to find.. EVEN if you pay for it.. who makes those? Nobody does. Thats what I wanted to attempt. God if I could buy them, I would, but there are none |

There are fantasy sims that are of te genre that would have 'bardic outfits, complete with instrument', and there are lots of places that have an asian or indian theme, that would likely have the 'monks outfit complete with silk handwraps' (As the version I'm envisioning is decidedly asian) I know where to find beautiful kimonos, modern day asian styles, samurai armour, various military uniforms, plenty of old-style clothes, silks, and so many other things. I haven't yet seen a good monks outfit simply because I don't want one. If I find one I'll let you know. With the bardic bit.. well.. that all depends on your version of 'bard'. I promise you instruments of various kinds exist, as do various outfits that could be considered 'bardic'. You just have to look long and hard, and find people who can help you find the right places. _____________________
