I did a search and couldn't come up with a specific answer. I have free items that I can't delete because the "delete" choice is not there or grayed out. Same with outfit folders that I created. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Hi Coffee,
First off, are these items in the "Library" section of your inventory? If so, I believe that is why you can't delete them. If not, please look in the folders that the items do exist in and make sure that you aren't wearing any of them - either clothing or attachments, skin or shapes. If you are, and you want to keep those items...move them to a new folder. You should then be able to delete the folder with the other unwanted items. if you don't want those items you'll need to detach or remove them. In the way of skin or shapes, the only way to 'unwear' them is to replace them with another skin or shape. Good luck! BTW, welcome to SL! |

It could be that the free items went into system folders, such as Clothing. You can't delete those folders, but you can delete what's in them.

I know what OP is talking about, as I've often experienced this myself, particularly with prim attachments I'd just detached.
You cannot delete a folder containing any items you are currently wearing. It won't let you, for obvious reasons. Be sure you have taken off/detached anything in that folder before trying to delete it. Sometimes a prim attachment will have the "delete" option greyed out for no discernible reason. Selecting it and hitting the Delete key often works in these cases, as does manually dragging the offending item to your trash. _____________________

System clothes can be screwy that way.
For instance, if I'm wearing a shirt, right-click and remove it, and then try to delete the shirt, the delete option will be grayed out. However, if I replace it with another shirt instead of taking it off, then I can delete it immediately. (I can't remember when I tried it, but it seems as though when I tried deleting such an item with the delete key, I either crashed or had inventory problems later. I've become superstitious about not doing that - YMMV.) The option to delete seems to come back after a relog, so I have taken shoving undeletable system clothes into a folder marked 'Delete me' or just renaming the folders they're in if I don't want the outfit, and every now and then I search my inventory for the word 'delete' and trash them. |

Like it's updating the 'stuff worn' list when things get worn/attached but not when they're removed/detached.. _____________________

It's probably still a viewer bug, but I'm seeing a related problem: If I right-click on a folder containing system clothes I'm wearing, the Delete option is correctly greyed-out, but it stays greyed-out for that folder even if I remove or replace the worn article. It also doesn't help to delete the entire contents of the folder once the article is no longer worn. This doesn't propagate to a containing folder, however, so if I move the contaminated folder to be inside a New Folder then I can delete the whole thing. It all cleans up after a relog. This with 1.23.5.
(Finding this was pretty much the only thing I got out of the Make Him Over Hunt 2, which provided lots of practice in deleting clothing and folders. )_____________________

There is a bug which corrupts your inventory and somehow moves existing folders to the top level of your inventory, allowing you to wear clothes and attachments but not to manipulate folders or their contents - SL crashes! There is a JIRA entry for it (can't remember the reference now) but it acknowledges that the only solution is to ask LL to sort it out directly, which they did for me after I had assured them that I had tried all the normal stiff, ie clearing cache, rebuilding, sitting on the bottom of a water sim, praying to the deity of lost inventory etc . . .
Pep (Of course, this might not be your problem. I spent about six months asking here and elsewhere if anyone had seen anything similar, to no avail.) _____________________
