Just an observation; please bear with me.
My minimap is in the default top right hand corner, like most other UIs. It's just habit to glance up there to check it.
The blue popup window tends to cover the minimap when a message comes up. No big deal.
Now, every time I TP into a new place, I move a few steps to get away from the landing point out of consideration for others. Glance at the minimap to make sure I'm not walking blindly into other close by avatars that aren't fully rezzed yet.
And... most places, upon my arrival, do their best to start shoving notecards, landmarks and other crap down my throat. The blue popup window covers the minimap. I have to wait for each pointless message to come up before I can click them off before I can move. And that's just pointless.
Plenty of workarounds, sure. But doesn't it seem someone at LL would've realized this and coded the blue popup window to show up elsewhere by default?

You do know that you move it anywhere you please, right? And it will stay wherever you move it. From: Janelle Darkstone Just an observation; please bear with me.

For me, better than having the blue pop ups move somewhere else we should convince merchants to stop pelting us with note cards, landmarks and invitations to join a group. All of these can be had by the avatars requesting it if desired by clicking a sign or something. No uninvited landmark is going to make me come back to a place, and if I need one, I know how to make it myself.
I cannot say I boycott such places. It seems every merchant does it. But I tell you it's just plain useless.

You can drag the mini-map around to any place you'd like. You can also resize it and zoom in/out.

From: Drivin Sideways You can drag the mini-map around to any place you'd like. You can also resize it and zoom in/out. Sure. But it's more about sticking to a standard, that the radar/minimap is usually in the top right corner by default. It's like that in WoW, EQ2 and several other games. It's become a habit to expect it to be there. It seems simple to allow an option to change the popup to the bottom right or something, like the other system messages there already. Like Weston suggested, you *could* ask every shop and club owner to stop with the notecard spam, but it seems a simple, logical change in the UI would be so much simpler. Ya know?

I'd love it if we could default the darn popups to the upper left hand side. Only thing there are the menus, which at least can be operated by hot key!

I never leave the minimap at default, same with chat and IM windows - I always set a preference that works for how I use the viewer.
