I bought an avatar recently. But for some reason I cannot take off the hair, skin, or shape. It's preventing me from editing my appearance.

When I right click on them, there is no option to Unwear them, just an option to Wear them, even though it says (Worn) next to them.

Someone recommended that I clear my cache and reboot, which I did, but it didn't solve anything.

Does anyone know what to do?

Try wearing a different skin and shape, simply right click your old shape or skin in your inventory. The hair may be prim hair, in which case you can right click it and click detach, click the actual hair on your avatar.

How do I find my original shape and skin in my inventory?

It doesn't actually show any hair on my head. When I right click, nothing happens.

Shape and skin and system hair cannot be "removed"...they can only be "replaced". To change your shape, skin or hair simply choose a new one from inventory, right click on it and choose "wear". The selected one will then replace the one you had been wearing.

For prim hair you will want to wear a "bald" cap (which you can get with many demos at hair stores) before putting on the prim hair.

Hi, Falkor :)

Linden Lab provides everyone with a stock of several library avatars (all of which can be found in the Library section of your Inventory). The one that you started out wearing will also be copied into the Clothing folder of the My Inventory section. Look inside there for a folder called something like 'Boy Next Door by Adam n Eve' (it might be different, depending on which avatar you started with). Your skin, shape, hair etc will be inside there.

As others have said: you can't take off skins, shapes and system hair; you need to replace them with other skins, shapes and the like. The reason you can't see any hair on your avatar is probably because you're wearing what's called a 'bald base'. This is a set of system hair with all the length and style settings at zero, and it's worn beneath prim hair. If you didn't wear a bald base beneath prim hair, then your system hair would be poking through the prim hair.

I have a few newbie guides to things like this at my blog, explaining further. Try this page for all about wearing clothing:

This page explains the inventory icons a bit more:

And this is my general newbie page, with links to posts I've made so far that might help you out:

Hopefully some of those will explain things a bit more for you :)
