Never been quite sure how this works.
If I have the TV running in my house (visible through my window) and someone happens to walk by, perhaps they are even looking in from a neighbouring SIM
Do they also see and (if near enough) hear my TV running?
I've no problem with this, and think it's quite coold if they can do, but never been sure if it works this way or not?
Do they (for instance) have to actually be on my parcel of land to see my TV running? As I can move onto a different parcel myself, or even a neighbouring sim and still see my TV running through my windows.

hmmm you got me really thinking here LOL ( I do not use video and last time I did it was just to test something for someone, and then never used it again)
actually I am thinking that maybe anyone will be able to see it, since the video feed is actually put on the prim, and not played the same way the music is...
with music you have to actually be on the same plot... but video I am now thinking you do not have to, because of it feeding off the prim (similar to how you can see textures from other plots)

As I can move onto a different parcel myself, or even a neighbouring sim and still see my TV running through my windows. Really? It sure doesn't work that way for me. Out of curiousity, do you have "Automatically play media" checked, in Edit / Preferences / Audio & Video? (I don't, because of security concerns about permitting Quicktime connections from arbitrary sources--which was at one time exploited for some version of Quicktime.) Anyway, generally speaking, an agent on another parcel gets the media defined for that parcel, not for whatever parcel they're looking at on your parcel (and regardless of their cam position). And usually that means that when you cross into another parcel with different media settings, the screen(s) on the previous parcel revert to the texture that was painted on them (defined locally to that parcel as its media texture). But there's a whole different way this can work, where a script on one parcel can control an individual agent's media stream, independent of the parcel on which the agent is located. So, in theory, your TV could be telling others to watch your stream on your media texture, regardless of what's defined on the parcel where they're located. It's *possible* that this is what you're seeing, and that others would experience it too, but 99.9% of SL media scripts do not work this way (yet?), and just adjust the media settings for the parcel. This per-agent media control is really only supposed to work for agents within a sim, but maybe it works in neighboring sims in which the agent is a "child agent" of the sim in which the media commands are issued.

Ahh, perhaps I need to clarify a couple of point here that may be relevant
1: I'm 99% sure I do have auto play media selected.
2: The sim directly in front of me (from which I can still view my TV running in the different sim) is a mainland totally open water sim, hence I'd guess has no media selected, and the other parcel next to me (from which I can can also see my TV running) is a vendor's place which again I'm sure has no media running.
But still, if someone else DOES enter my parcel and then (due to my media settings and them on Auto play) can see my TV, then will they still see my TV once they move onto surrounding parcels or new sim if that new area does not have any media of it's own set.
Or unlike myself, will their view of my TV stop when they cross my parcel boundary, wherewas I can still see my TV from these locations?

Pretty sure that if it works for you, it will work the same for them.
It would be theoretically possible to use that agent-specific media trick to make it behave differently for different agents (e.g., specially treat the parcel owner or those with the same group active), but it would be some scripting effort with no obvious benefit, so I very much doubt any scripts do that.
(I'd offer to test this, but I'm on Linux with a very b0rked gstreamer installation at the moment, so I see maybe 10% of in-world video streams.)

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I'm kinda assuming that someone would have to have visited my parcel in the 1st place to kick their media system into runnign in the 1st place, so on a neighbouring parcel they would of course not see my video feed/texture as they need to be on my parcel to get it set on their system. Though perhaps once they leave my parcel, unless they visit another parcel to chance this setting, they will still see my video. Perhaps

Did you move your avatar off-parcel? Or just your camera position? As long as the avatar is on the parcel, they still have access to the media stream.
Possibly if you establish a connection to a stream while on the parcel, you may retain that connection for a short time after leaving the parcel as cached data, provided no other media is selected in the neighboring parcel to override that. But I do not think so. I have an audio stream set up for a sub-parcel that I have a lounge in, so that one parcel can listen to a jukebox in the lounge. The instant I cross the boundary of that parcel, the sound stops or starts.
Haven't done that test recently with video, but that should work the same way. I know on client parcels where I set up a video player, I couldn't hear the audio from that player once I stepped onto another parcel. And I don't recall seeing anything other than the static "media texture" on the screen of those displays while approaching from other parcels, and not yet having entered the one with the streaming video.

Ok................ Just got onto SL and did some testing. I am now in a "Red Face Feeling an Idiot" mode right now ! Hands up to everyone who read my postings on this subject. I WAS TOTALLY WRONG..... (there, I'll always admit when I have screwed up) LOL No.... I cannot leave my parcel and still see my Video stream. What I have obviously been doing all along is moving my "Camera Postion" and not my avatar. Haveing a 3D Navigator controller (that I would now die without) I'm so used to leaving my Avatar in a location and just moving around my parcel with my camera only. this is what I've been doing all along (re my posting) and never actually dawned on me that I was doing it. Sorry for the confusion everyone. I messed up this one....

I just wish you'd watch something decent instead of "Two Pints of Beer and a Packet of Chips".
