New Twists on Old Themes

They're still coming up with great ideas.

A few weeks ago, I encountered a unique dance club. I've mentioned it here before, but it deserves repeating: The New Champagne Rooms. It's not your typical strip club...it's a tastefully done 1930's style burlesque place. The dancers do strip, but it's done with class. You feel like you might run into Bogart or Bacall in this place.

I see a bit further down the forums that someone is opening a Companion Chapter House, a roleplay establishment based on the Firefly/Serenity universe. Now that's a new twist on your typical escort club. Brava!

My point is that this sort of thing...a creative twist...is a key ingredient to success in SL (or in any business, SL or RL.) I don't know if these two examples will succeed or fail...but I applaud them and wish them the best.

What sorts of creative approaches have caught YOUR eye lately?

Is it male or female strippers? Burlesque or not- I find male strippers - scary and repulsive really- in RL too- it just doesn't seem something men should do, you know? Yes - I know- I sound terribly provincial and stick in the mud- in my defense I have been (in RL) to strip clubs with women strippers- that just feels much more appropriate- anyhoo- re new ideas- Rha had a great one on another thread here somewhere for a pawn shop that I though was pretty awesome.

I want to see more places like the defunct VSN - it was absolutely inspired that you were able to walk INTO a painting!

I've only seen male strippers once in SL...and they were really good I mean...really REALLY good!

From what I've seen on adult documentaries & video clips showing the inside of strip clubs (never been to one myself), I notice that the men sit there, drink their beer, maybe get a lapdance. When its the women watching Males, the women are all over them, yelling & screaming, grabbing at the guy.

Never could figure that one out.

I'd hate to be a male stripper. Getting naked for a bunch of women old enough to by my mother & maybe the occasional college-girls-night-out. Sorry, I'd rather strip for the 21-35 yr olds

The New Champagne Rooms is actually just a topless venue, not a full strip club... and up to this point we've just had female dancers on the stage. Although we're thinking it might be fun for a special event to run a drag show just for fun. For us it's more about creating an atmosphere than running a "strip club". We've been having fun doing it for the last year.

Topless women are a draw I am sure - and probably much more tasteful then a full strip. Now I have not seen any strip shows in SL- I have been to RL strip clubs with both male and female strippers. Not as a habit mind you- but once I was traveling in New Orleans and there strip clubs on Bourbon Street are a tourist attraction. I went to a rather divey one once cause a friend asked me to take him to see his gf and she was a stripper in a club. Saw male strippers at bachelorette parties and once in a club- neither time was i particularly amused -I do not find it a position becoming to a man.

Tod - about the women all over the guys- it does seem rather one sided. My husband and I were talking about that yesterday - we had just driven by a "Gentleman's Club" when he commented the laws were weird in that if we both went in, a female stripper could touch me during a lap dance but same stripper wd be violating the law if she gave him a lap dance and touched him - hell if I know, but it struck me as silly -sauce for the goose and all.

Anyway- back to the op - all for originality - we need new and beautiful things to discover! Mari posted in the Undead Thread there is a new Radio place- I will look about for that tonight.

I went to this massive (cheesy) club near Charlotte, NC years ago that had a strip club for both men and women inside, as well as a (cheesy) dance club. There was a mix of ages among the clientele. Honestly, I believe that many male strippers are gay, so the women clawing them doesn't do it for them. They flirt with the ladies pretty good, though. I still regret paying the cover charge and losing several hours of my life for going there.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a windlight setting to turn everything black and white?

your documenteries are showing higher caliber strip joints.... in the lower end ones, it's a lot more 'level' playing field... although there is still a bias... women touching male dancers is considered harmless, men touching female dancers is considered inappropriate (and more likely to have legal limitations too, thanks to most local laws looking at female dancers as potential prostitues, and male dancers as 'maybe getting lucky', go figure)

hey weston, there is a way to get you viewer black and white, there is a suite of software that modifies the way openGL renders... you'd have to dig around, because I don't remember the name, but I remember playing with it a few years back.... had a great pencil drawing filter set.... very 'take on me (a-ha)'
