I must admit that one thing I expected to see lots more of in SL are DINOSAURS. Not just small avatars reperesenting small ones but HUGE herds of the beast roaming wild.
Sadly dinosaurs seem all but extinct in SL.
Im no tech but Im wondering if it is actually possible to imbue animals with the ability to roam freely in sl.
Im sure there are people who would like to see elephant and rhino herds roaming wild as much as I would prehistoric reptiles.
Id love to visit a region where swimming in the sea could bring me face to face with a shoal of Icthyosaurs or plesiosaurs and flying in the sky might bring me face to face with a pterodactyl.
Is the possibility of being chased by a tyrannosaur in sl outside the bounds of credibility ?

I read mention of a dinosaur park here once, but I've never been. I don't know if the dinos would be mobile though, that might be hard. I bet there are dino avatars out there!

Oh Ive seen one or two good (if a little small ) dino avvys and a rather good dino park...but all the dinos were small and relatively immobile. Im wondering if it is possible to give SL fauna which operates of its own will. Id like to see a region representing eaching of the geological periods in earths history. Paddle through a pool of Trilobites during the Silurian era encounter lifes first move onto the land in the Devonian period ... or track wooly mammoth in the Pleistocene... Best of all ride around a Jurassic lagoon on the back of a stegosaurus.

I would LOVE to do this, but I don't quite yet have the resources for it. Or the technical knowhow. I have seen herds of llamas running around so I'm sure dinosaurs are doable.
I've also been wanting to create an area where you can visit another planet and have exotic flora and fauna running around. Kind of a xeno-zoo. I have some ideas on how it could work with total immersion so you wouldn't see any spinning "For Sale" signs next door, but I think it would require input from several different creative talents to pull it off. And sadly I'm not much of an organizer / motivator. It would also require at least 4096m sized land which is just barely within my budget. 8192m or more would be better. Even more would be needed for something as big as dinosaurs I think.

I'd say you've got plenty o time...

I would imagine they would thats why I thought a cretaceous park run on a linden region might be an idea... maybe they could get Jeff Goldblum to play the Linden family

I have a pair of Bald Eagles that fly in random patterns and not in circles over the land. They are confined to a certain sized area and fly from close to the ground to about 20 meters above their nest. I would think that the same thing could be done on a parcel wide basis with birds or on the ground w/other roaming type animals. The Eagles are temp rez and fly around for about 5 minutes, then disappear then re-rezz.

From: Maelstrom Janus maybe they could get Jeff Goldblum to play the Linden family Sure! Until someone tries stealing the scripts, causing the Dinosaurs to go crazy & rampage throughout the sims, lagging innocent people.

From: Maelstrom Janus Im wondering if it is possible to give SL fauna which operates of its own will. There is a limited amount of this going on in SL. There is a small artificial life section in Svarga and a couple of other projects around. I have some hummingbirds I bought that flitter around, buzzing from person to person and their feeding flowers. The Svarga (and others) have plants that need to be fertilized by bees and then seed, firing the seeds, and if they land on fertile ground they sprout into new plants. Also birds you can feed with birdfeed. There is an artificial life group as well (A-life?)

I like this idea. A group of sims with lush jungles, swamp land, lakes, volcanoes, ect. Lots of different kinds of animals. Advanced scripting would be needed for the dinosaurs. Dinos floating in a circle won't cut it.

Im actually suprised you dont see more Dino avvys and Ive never yet seen a pterodactyl - meanwhile some of the darker depths of the sl seas are just crying out for giant marine reptiles.
If anyone has seen any sea monsters please let me know.
