I have been a premium member for a few months now and my 512 free tier has been donated for most of this time.

With the price of land now more reasonable, I am looking into purchasing a plot. The question is how can I find out what my monthly tier period is? Was is started as soon as I donated my tier or will it start for the first time as soon as I buy land?

As a matter of principle I am reluctant to purchase land close to the tier period.

go to MY ACCOUNT under the secondlife.com page. it should show you on that page what your tier date is.

Go to the "My Account" part of the SL website, and see when your last billing date was?

Update:

I was a bit too hasty. That billing date under the account summary is for my yearly subscription which is not due for a few months yet. Also as I have never been billed for tier, I have no historical transaction to look at

There should be 2 dates on your account page. Nearer the top is the one for your annual membership, but then there are a second wet of numbers at the bottom that deal with your tier. If you have been doanting that 512 it should show up at the bottom and down there at the very bottm should be the date for your monthly tier cycle. The day of the month will, I am pretty sure, be the same as the bill date for your membership. Your 512 of free tier started the day you signed up for premium so that is your bill date. (I think

I believe that if you WITHDRAW the tier you have donated first, then buy land, you should not have any problem. If you want to be safe, withdraw the donation the day before.

Current holdings: 0 square meters
Available for purchase:0 square meters
Peak square meter usage:512 square meters
Total monthly cost:US$0.00

I am hoping that the billing date will only kick start when I purchase land.

Doh! I bought land on the first day of my premium membership so of course they are the same!

Mine looks like this:

Land Holdings

Allowed holdings: xxx square meters
Current holdings: 0 square meters
Available for purchase: 0 square meters

Total monthly cost: xxx
Next bill date: Sunday, September 16, 2007
