I am about to buy some land that already has renters happily ensconced there. This is a mainland sim. I know I can get the houses to transfer to me. But I'm expecting that the renters' furniture will be returned to them. Or is there a safe way to do this without the houses being emptied? The original land was group owned and the renters were made members of that group.
Any suggestions? And please, I'm looking for solutions that don't include casinos or Ginkos or 16 m plots or Ruth. Thanks, all y'all.

Once you buy the land, don't put on auto return until you have made a new group, got all the renters to join and then they have set all their objects to the new group. Ok it could take a little while, but less problematic than everything flying back to inventories.
Unless auto return is put on, the objects should stay in place.

That's what I was hoping. I didn't know if the pre-existing group membership would muck it up. Yeehaa! Thanks.

If the group they're all a part of was created strictly for those renters/that land, just have the current group owner invite you, give you ownership, then leave the group.
If that's not the case, forget I said anything.
