I have the gesture, but I don't have a sound file for 'wewt wewt' or 'w00t' or whatever it may be called.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the sound file?

Thanks

Please don't. Seriously. Unless you do it in the privacy of your own parcel, with spatial sound restricted, please, I implore you, don't use those things.

The same goes for "yaaaayyyyy", and that holding-your-sides "LOL!!1!" and babies chuckling, and all the other audio spam that people throw out. It's not original, it's not necessary or helpful and for many people it's *extremely* annoying. Especially those baby sounds - they're the absolute worst, even worse than fingernails scratching on a blackboard.

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm certainly not alone in this. Maybe lots of people find them great fun, and laugh with delight all over again each time they hear one, but for many of us you're simply irritating in the extreme if you do that even once. I for one mute anyone making those sounds as soon as I can work out who it is - sometimes not easy in a crowd, especially when there's no text, or they're more than 20m away (those sounds *carry*!). I'm getting quite good at it, though, moving the cam around quickly to identify the source of the sound, and beacons probably help too, but I do wish I didn't have to do all that.

No doubt there'll be replies now telling me I'm a boring killjoy, or that it's none of my business, or sarcastically telling me how to turn my sound down, and so on. I'm only stating a case, and I'll not get drawn into any arguments over it.

I'll just ask you again, for one last time, each and every one of you who does this:

Please, please, stop. Please.

Haha,

I hate that gesture as much as anyone...really, I do. lol

I'm making a game for an exhibition and I want a part of it to make that recognizable sound (just once per play, I swear) at one point in the game.

Having it just say the woot in chat isn't going to cut it, I'm afraid. :-)

why not just make your own sound file that says woot or some other sound, maybe make a sound unique to your game?

edited to add:

If you really have your heart set on that specific sound, check the gesture to see who the creator is, then im them asking where they got the sound for it...
no harm in trying...

The LOD
the real LOD would put the say command in an infinite loop or a timer event.

I'm surprised that I wasn't able to find a woot wav file with minimal effort by Googling.

He has People by B Streisand playing in Hell - Woot is kiddie stuff :p

Create object A
Put rezzing script into object A
Take a copy of object A to inventory -> that will now be object B
Put your new object B inside of object A
Take a copy of Object A to inventory -> this will be object C
Delete object C from object A and replace with object C

Should the last line read "Delete object B"?

It does not seem that Object C would be in Object A's contents.

This has been driving me mad for at least a week now or since I noticed it - thank you for this particular infinite loop- didnt know He hired out :D

People, people...Void in particular...

I don't want the sound to make your SL experience worse. I'm making art here. I need a cultural artifact to make a point.

The original creator appears to be long gone from SL. And it is surprising that the sound doesn't seem to be commonly held. Someone did slip me the UUID of the sound, but they stole it using copybot software, so I'm not going to use it.

Well, I'll keep scouring the freebie markets to see if it turns up.

- Get creator info on the gesture, and ask them for a copy of the sound.

- You COULD try scouring the SL cache to try and find the UUID of the sound (don't ask me how, I don't know, but I know it's possible somehow).

- You could also use windows to record "Stereo Mix" while triggering said gesture, then clean it up in audacity or something, and re-upload it.

Let your conscience be your guide.

I wasn't being entirely serious (which is why I posted the way I did ;) don't take it personally, there are just a few things after having been here 4+ years that I really Really can't stand... gesture/sound spamming (woot, howlz, spanks, etc) is very high on that list (the idiotic baby laugh is up there too, I have a friend that adores it... ::cringe::)

PS. hey winter, ran through ER today, got some neat stuff there, all your creations?

Right, but there's a pretty fine distinction between that and a "copybot" source.

Along those same lines, it used to be that you could get the UUID of sounds that are playing using some debug console or other, but I'll be damned if I can find it again now when the subject comes up. That might be infinitesmally less conscience-upsetting inasmuch as it would appear in the standard browser using a built-in feature.

But TBH, if one is doing this as an installation (as opposed to a product for sale or distribution), then I wouldn't think the creator would object--nor *dare* to object: If they actually tried to collect lost revenues from copyright infringement, they'd have a hell of a time substantiating any loss--and would risk bringing down a shaky house of cards in the event of a "fair use" ruling.

Kurt Ludd was able to supply me with the sound I was looking for. Thank you Kurt!

When I made my OP, it never occurred to me that I was cranking the opener on a can of worms. :-)

As I said in another post, I am no fan of spammy gestures, either. After an SL event, my mute list always has several new entries. However, there are some things that are so ubiquitous in SL that they have attained the status of cultural artifacts. Art Laxness's sculpted noob is a case in point.

In the real world, something called "Artistic Appropriation" always comes up in matters of copyright. It means that any copyright law must take into account that artists (whatever form that may take) must have the right to appropriate cultural symbols, totems, icons, what have you for the act of creation. It's often referred to as, but is slightly different from, the "fair use" that Qie mentioned.

I'm sure everyone here is familiar with Andy Warhol's realistic and highly detailed painting of a Campbell Soup can. That is a very famous example of what is meant by artistic appropriation or "appropriation art".

In Warhol's painting, he recreated with his brushes a trademarked logo. Other artists will photograph, photocopy, repeat or record what they need to create their work. Asking permission is polite, but should be unnecessary. It is the artist's job to reflect the society in which they live and to do that it is sometimes necessary to appropriate someone's work or trademark.

Nonetheless, using criminal means to attain these symbols. for whatever purpose, is still a criminal act. And copybot software is the tool of a criminal. I'm sorry if that's too blunt for some people, but it is what it is.

When I use this sound in my build, the accompanying notes will credit and thank Kurt and the original creator for its use. And when people visit the exhibit, there will be no doubt in their minds what my prim object is conveying when it goes "wewt wewt". :)

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and thoughts.

The dsf files in the cache are just wav files with the extensions changed to dsf.
