My friend and I are trying to do voice chat. She had her headphone first and it worked fine. Then I got a set and after some trial and error, it's all working...except for one thing:
I can hear the SL sounds (birds, wind, etc) in my earpiece, but my friend's voice comes on my computer speakers. If I mute the speakers, I can't hear her. And it's the same thing for her. Then this also creates a big echo, because I hear my own voice coming out on her speakers and vice versa.
She's on PC (Windows XP) and I'm Mac (OS Tiger).
How do we set it so our voices come thru the earpieces and not our speakers?
Thanks, Nic

bump
I wish I knew, but I am not familiar with Mac's bumping it in hopes that someone else will be able to help
(I am guessing that you both went into the SL client, under preferences, voice tab, and device settings and picked the proper devices for your soundcards)
If all else fails contact tech support

If all else fails contact tech support Thanks for the bump! I had gone into device settings early on, but had changed some system settings trying to get the headphone/mic to work. After you said that, I went back to device settings and chose again....it's fixed! My friend (on PC) unplugged something on her monitor so now she hears it in her earpiece too. However, we're still getting some feedback (voice echo)....anyone know how to fix that? Thanks Rhaorth - you really helped!

From: Nicoletta Lefevre However, we're still getting some feedback (voice echo)....anyone know how to fix that? I'm also not a Mac user, but... it sounds like one or both of you need to check your computer's sound settings. In order for others not to hear what you are hearing, you need to make sure that the only input enabled on your computer is the mic. In order for you not to hear your own voice, you may need to mute the mic from your computer's output too. On a Windows PC, in the audio input (Line In/Mic In) options the "stereo mix" option is usually the culprit and needs to be disabled or muted; personally I disable all input but the microphone. I also have to do the opposite in the audio output settings (mute the microphone) or I will hear my own mic. I haven't the foggiest on the Mac so you may have to try the Mac forum section if what I say doesn't make sense. Hope it helps...

You are very welcome! (I was taught in college, look for the simple solution first hehe)
is it only the voice echo you are getting or are you also hearing the other person's computer sounds (as in if they get an im do you hear the ding ding, etc)
If that is the case then yeah, you would have your master record set under the windows recording options.
(not sure about mac)
If you are not hearing the other sounds and only hearing the voices echo, not sure why it would do that.
I know some folks who say they are using headsets, yet we hear everyone echoing through them, so they set themselves as push to talk and avoid talking when others are talking.
