How do I save chat history?

How do I save chat history please? I need to keep some notes on group meets etc

edit> preferences> communication

check the "log chat" box

and at the bottom there is a blue box that says "change path" and it will let you choose where you want it to be saved on your computer

this is all "i think" info because i'm not in-world to double check

You can find your Logging Options in the Communication tab of your Preferences window. To open your Preferences window, go to Edit > Preferences and then put a check in the box for the option you wish to use. the chat logs are on your hard drive at the location you entered in the path on this tab.

You can save the currently displayed chat text by pressing Control A to select all the text, Control C to copy it , then start a text editor and press Control V to paste it, or some variation of those steps.

You might want to make backups of the chat log files referred to in the preceding post, if you care about them; I suspect that SL will mess them up, overwrite the old ones with new empty ones, or that one will at times have a cleaning fit and delete them one's self by mistake.

The problem with logging all chat is that it quickly becomes a huge file, and not easy to find things in. If you only want to, in effect, keep minutes of meetings, you can copy and paste from the chat history to a notecard - but remember to do it before you log off or you'll have to search through your chat log to find it.

Well when it starts to get too big you can save your chat log as something else like "Chat 2.1.08 to 2.21.08 and the chat log will continue on logging everything as of after that save.
