Hope someone can help.

An alt of mine received the following e-mail from LL

I really don't know what they are talking about, and to my knowledge have never been to Linden Lab HQ 3. Could anyone advise me about appealing this or at least finding out what I have supposedly done wrong without having to write to LL.

Thanks

How are we supposed to know? Call them. It sounds like you're busted for password sharing.

Because LL operate an online business I thought they might have some sort of e-mail I could post to rather than having to send a letter via "snail mail"

A strict interpretation of the TOS section in question would say that you and your alt aren't allowed to know each other's passwords.

LL has online channels for you to address them. If you go to the support portal, you'll see options for submitting a ticket, and even getting to live chat, depending on your account status. They also have a phone number.

Regarding the line: "Linden Lab individually investigates the circumstances of every Abuse
Report we receive" - that's not true, is it? Seems to me I was at a meeting just lately where Linden staffers said they investigate only a tiny percentage of abuse reports. This makes sense since they get so many. The email response message should be updated.

It's just a warning. That means you are in theory not eligible for anything that requires a perfect rap sheet. Forum resident moderator positions were said to require a perfect rapsheet, although I am not sure that rule was actually enforced literally like LL said it would be.

The location would be the location of the user that filed the abuser report at the time they started filing the abuse report, or perhaps, and this sounds likely, the location of the Linden staffmember at the time the response was filed.

It's not inconceivable that something odd happened regarding your main account and your alt account that got interpreted incorrectly as an account violation.

I would write to the address shown and ask for an explanation. Provide as much information about you and your alt as your want that might help them figure out if there was some kind of confusion about you and your alt.

Another possiblity is that your alt got picked by mistake when someone filed an abuse report.

You DID use the same real life name and birthday when you signed your alt up, didn't you? If you used different information for the alt, LL probably thinks you're two different people.

OK, this isn't gonna be easy, but from now on, when I log in my alt, I'm going to make sure my main keeps her eyes closed.

In my opinion this is just another totally meaningless and therefore useless example of LL's incompetent violation notification methods. If you actually did something improper, you would still be unsure what the hell it was that prompted this notice. It provides no useful information and therefore only confuses anyone who gets one from them.

At least this one offers you an oppourtunity to communicate with them, which is more then I have seen in the past. Your only hope of understanding it is to contact them about it. Good Luck with that.

I was wondering if that could happen if you repeatedly mistype your password by chance?

I was thinking this might have been the problem. Say, the main account had password problems, so they figured the secondary was trying to hack it?

Or.. you should change your password immediately on both accounts?

Thanks for all your comments

I submitted a ticket and was told it was due to password probs. As a couple of you have mentioned, this sounds like its because of entering wrong passwords, as I have been fliting between accounts quite a lot and have been getting details mixed up.
