ok..last night..a few different people contacted me..strangers..wanted to meet..buisness bla bla..I haven't made many enemies in Second life and those i have made..well i..can't make all the people happy all the time.

But anyways..i teleported to a sim to go hair shopping..occasionally when i'm lagging..textures rezz slow..even alpha transparent textures appear to be gray..(at first) until they rezz..Well..i noticed a gray box about 2 meters by 2 meters that "seemed" to be attached to my body.(I briefly wondered if i was seeing aN LL avatar positioning device that I had never seen before..or what)but anyways..it turned gray and poof went transparent.

Then I teleported to another SIM..saw the same thing...went flying with a friend and noticed (in lag) that this box seemed to be following me(or attached to my mid waist) I paid it no mind and went animation shopping. I jumped on to an animation vendor to test an animation and when i jumped off..there the box was again..gray..seemed to be following me. I quickly selected it and hit cntrl alt T after it disappeared and voila there it was...while selected by me..I was lagging pretty bad..and it didn't even cross my mind to check owner..but i did delete it. The message i got was that the object was not owned by me..was not copiable..did I really want to delete it. I clicked yes...THen..it struck me that perhaps this was a spy bot.

Anyone have any experience?

Before the paranoia kicks in, Lana, I'd make a quick check to see if it isn't an attachment of some sort. Could be one of those fancy 'personal lighting source' thingies which would be invisible (alpha) under normal circumstances but under extreme texture lag would show up as a grey box. Check 'worn' items in your inventory as well.

yes yes I did that..and also i wouldn't have gotten the message that the object wasn't owned by me if indeed it was an attachment. Thanx though.

I'm more puzzled by the fact that it let you delete it... unless you are on land you own you shouldn't be able to delete anything owned by another, with two exceptions

1)people that you have modify rights for their objects
2)group objects, in groups you have power over them

as for if it's a spybot or not ::shrug:: could be, could also be someones attempt at a radar tracker for a multi sim build... who knows

you can easily get rid of them by walking through no script land or no object entry land most times... most aren't smart enough tocheck for that and die in them

hmm that sounds about right..i was a little curious as to why it let me delete it as well. couldve been a bug..but the object itself was no bug..ill have to make it a daily habit to go into a create no objects place daily..or no scripts..Thankyou :)

Good question. If it is, it'll have a properties window just like the rest!

Little terminology thing: a bot is an avatar that is operating under programmatic, not human, control.

This sounds more like a scripted object, with unknown functionality.

If it wasn't yours, it won't be in your trash.

If you have an item that rezzes objects, then it can be yours without showing you as the owner. IT shouldn't, but it does.

I have a system that deploys relay drones. The system is made by someone other than myself, but I own it. When the drones deploy, they show as being created and owned by the creator who made the system, not by me. I can delete them though, since I own the system.

I'm not saying this is the issue (doubtful really), but it is possible to own prims without the SL system denoting them as such.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.
