Different from Aristotle, anyway :)

The first land that I bought in SL is in the old north continent, on the shore of the inland sea - I have a piece of the shore. There are water parcels there - parcels that are only water, on which people put platforms with buildings on the platforms. Until recently, there was always a way through to the sea from my shore, but the most recent owner of the water has been somewhat inconsiderate, and blocked off my access to the sea.

I recently went over to sort out a spying problem he was having when a neighbor placed spy objects on my land. I don't know what the beef is between them, but I removed the objects within minutes of him informing me about them. While we were chatting, I mentioned that he'd blocked off my access to the sea, and he said he'd make a way through, which he did.

Not long afterwards, I decided to sell the land and I put it up for sale. He IMed me to ask if I'd sell him a part of it - most of my sea water. Without the water part, my parcel would have been much less desirable so I declined, whereupon he blocked my sea access again. I IMed him about it and he said he needed the prims.

Has anyone ever had a similar problem? Would LL force him to leave an open channel, in a similar way to them disallowing a land owner to completely block another land owner's access to his/her parcel?

I asked live help, who suggested submitting an abuse report, which I'll do, but I'm wondering if anyone has come across anything similar, and what the outcome was.

i don't think there's anything you can do, Phil.

i had this issue once - i bought some land, and within days the properties around me were suddenly blocking me in 3 directions. worse, blocking my access to the water AND my view of it.

so, i sold the land for a minor loss. guess what? they bought it.

the next day i went back, and it was for sale again for the same amount i had bought it for, the water available, views perfect as the day i first bought my land.

i had been chumped. i say if you can tough it out, keep the whole land mass for sale and wait for him to grow impatient and buy the whole thing.

good luck!

I don't need to sell it, but I don't do anything with it any more, and the price is significantly higher than current market values, so I'm in no hurry. I'll file an abuse report though, as the Linden suggested, and see what happens.

I seriously doubt they will do anything about it, as long as his blocking prims are on his land he is completely within his rights to place them where ever he wants.

Whenever I had a neighbor problem.....and there were a bunch....(never, my fault of course).....usually someone wanting a piece of land that I had priced above their "champagne taste, beer/I'm entitled to this-budget"....if they pulled anything and got nasty....I immediately raised the price and sat on it.

While sitting on it....the most effective tool was the beat up old Trailer I would sit very close to their property....landscaped with tumbleweeds, beaten down deck with beaten up sofas on it, pink flamingos, beat up lawn chairs....and an inflatable pool with algae growing in it. There's a great trailer park in SL that is done like that.....great place for ideas. Let me find the name of it.

I snapped a few pics and put it up for rent at a really cheap price....those things stayed rented constantly.....there is a high demand for those! Then you slap up another. I could bring it over, and one of my avs plays a really good redneck if you need a trailer-sitter.

It was Fun. :) It was a blast decorating. The uglier and tackier the better.

Usually the land owner that was drooling over the land coughed up the money to buy at the higher price and just clicked the button to get it over with. My conscience was always fine with that. If they had been halfway nice, they would have been cut a deal.

Ouch!

Sometimes people are just blunt but mean no harm at all.

Driving down prices on a parcel on purpose seems unfair.

Above all in SL I want to be a good neighbor. I even ask them for ideas. I'd never block access or view to their parcel just 'cos I could, and I'd never ugly up the land to try to get a higher price off them. :(

Yeah, unfortunately there's no rule about landlocked parcels or guaranteed thoroughfare like they have in many RL places. If he's short on prims and not many other lots around that're up for sale, I'd wait him out... *evil laugh* there's no cure for prim fever :p
