That's the date that the money in CA runs out, apparently. Concerned? Will the Fed Reserve bail old arnie out? Or will the money dry up?
How does this affect you?
Well. When the money is gone...when does the power run out?

I wouldn't mind a little bit of anarchy if it choked off our state legislator's incomes along with it. Then they can get a taste of what the rest of us here have been dealing with. We can live within our means *and* have our essential services *and* keep pouring money to the Fed (read: other states). Easily. If only we cut the administrative fat and fluff projects, and stop having to locally fund federally mandated nonsense. For those that don't know: California pays out a *lot* more money than it takes in, to the Fed. If we were a country we'd be the 8th biggest economy in the world. Bigger than Spain or Canada, some of you might have heard of those places... http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/topic/15.html http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/politicalmuscle/2007/04/christopher_sha.html http://www.ccsce.com/pdf/Numbers_CA_Rank.pdf I've never smoked pot even once in my life personally but I tell you what, if we legalised it and turned Humboldt County into an agricultural center we'd solve the tax problem, win the drug war and chill out a lot of people all in one shot.

As a native Humboldt County-ain, I will tell you that legalizing pot is the -last- thing you would want to do to help the state's budget. It would ruin Humboldt's economy as the price of weed would just crash. The reason why pot keeps Humboldt going is that the price is high to give growers an incentive to put in all the effort it takes to grow it. Legalize it, the price drops and there is no more incentive to put in all the time and effort it takes to grow. (and no, I'm not a pot head, I just grew up in Humboldt and went to high school there
