Cannot set myself to Away

At some point within the past couple of weeks someone showed me a setting that stops my av from going into the chin on chest pose when my Away timeout expires (I think it may have been late one evening at the Hangout). I just tried setting myself to Away and /me assumes the "pose", and after about 10-12 seconds my head pops back up and I'm not Away any more. Does anyone know the setting to block/enable the "Away" pose, or are there any other thoughts on this? Could I have an animation turned on that is kicking me out of Away? Thanks, Jackie

I have not tested how long it lasts but I have turned off the away when afk mode but I still go away when I type afk, offcourse someone always ask a quick question before I get to turn around so the away is canceled as I answer that last question

Aren't there anti-afk scripts? Perhaps you have a hud with one of those?

I have never been able to go to away status by typing afk. I still can't, and today is my 2 year rez day so have been around awhile. I am not wearing anything 'now' that I was wearing 'then'. For some reason, typing afk has just never done it for me.

Love, not that I'm aware of. Other ideas? Jackie

To make that work, the afk gesture has to be active (all that gesture does is start the away animation, that's all that marks an avatar as away).

under ADVANCED menu, CHARACTER, CHARACTER TESTS, uncheck the "GO AWAY/AFK WHEN IDLE" option. If you want that on, merely make sure it's checked.

The problem is coming from my AO which has a default ani to change my standing position every few seconds. Hence, I never go Away. Oh, well.

I hate to use Busy in case someone sends me a note or landmark, or IM's. I'll have to see if my collar has a titler built in. Thanks, all. Jackie

If you want a quick and dirty solution....get yourself a 'flip titler' that you can wear and type something like "afk.....bbs". The you'd just have to turn the titler on when you step away. ;)

My old collar had a titler built in, but the new one does not. Easier just to log off! Thanks to all for the help. Jackie

Put this in your hair or some other prim attached to your head:

CODE

default {
state_entry() { llSetText("Any title you want here", <1,1,1>, 1); }
touch_start(integer n) { if(llDetectedKey(0) == llGetOwner()) state off; }
}

state off {
state_entry() { llSetText("", <0,0,0>, 0); }
touch_start(integer n) { if(llDetectedKey(0) == llGetOwner()) state default; }
}

Perfect! I'm assuming it will work in my lovely red hair :-))))) Haven't tried it yet, though. Thanks. Jackie

It puts the text through the middle of my hair, which is a little "bushy" as many of you know. I made the text "AFK AFK AFK AFK AFK" so some AFK's stick out. Is it easy to move the text relative to the root prim? This works OK when I'm in public, but what I'd really like is an option to Set to Away that would require a manual reset, not turn off automatically because of my animations. Thanks, Jackie

You can insert "\n" in the string to start a new line. There is a quirk in the LSL that requires at least one character on each line, so to push it up you want to put some blanks and newlines... e.g. "AFK AFK AFK\n \n \n \n \n " with a space after each "\n".

Hovertext is so obnoxious, though. Why not just use an attachment? SLX has a bunch of them, either free like this one, full perms: https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=1317891

Or the wonderful "newspaper" one, where you are reading an AFK newspaper :)

Better yet, you can make your own! In any draw program, put the letters AFK in your font of choice over the background of your choice (a picture of your AV asleep, steaming cup of coffee, road kill ...), save it as a jpeg, and upload it to SL. Slap it on a prim and attach it to your chin or nose whenever you want folks to know you're AFK.

You can easily make it spin if you REALLY want folks to notice.

I want an attachment that makes me pull out a cellphone and start talking obliviously on it when the IM window opens. Walking in circles and figure-eights with one hand to my ear and the other waving dramatically in the air would be a bonus.

I go afk if I type something like "I think Joeavatar is afk." But if I breath on the keyboard, I pop out of away.

Yep, they've kind of set up "away from keyboard" to be taken literally =D On OS X, I've found that option-tab is good enough to sneak over to another program without SL noticing. If you're on Windows, maybe try alt-tab and see if it cooperates the same way.
