I don't know but I kind of like the head nodding.

you can always click on something and your av will focus on that object.

As far as I know you need to turn your ao on (Do you have an ao & if so does it do it when it's turned on?)

Get higher priority animations for your AO.

I agree with Susie and Nina, I love the cute little head not at the end.
'I am going now, bye' *avatar nods to confirm*
It still makes me smile after all this time.

It's not a bug, it's the default animation. If you really want to get rid of it, you'll need an Animation Overrider (AO) that contains animations/poses that replace the default SL animations/poses.

There's also a huge list of every command and action in the debug menus. But they don't survive a grid update. So it maybe a bit time consuming. I assume you can turn it off, you can turn on and off almost every function in that list. it's huge, hundreds long.

I often get told I am unapproachable (why I dunno) but I notice if the head nodding is on people are less awestruck. Or maybe less scared of monkeys.

From: Day Oh If you'd like to try slproxy I'll make a plugin to disable the head nodding ^^ Could one make an SLProxy based AO? I've tried several AOs lately as a result of the thread about female walks, and they all seem to work rather clunkily. Slow and sort of jerky, not the animations themselves but it's just real slow. So maybe an SLProxy based AO could work more smoothly?

I'm pro-nod. It works for a level of expression in open chat for me. My SLGF is cute as buttons when she does it.

So maybe an SLProxy based AO could work more smoothly? Ah, someone did! It comes with libsecondlife I'm glad you mentioned it because I had been putting off trying it. It turns out to be easy: 1. Say /load ClientAO.dll 2. Opened my AO and copied the contents to inventory 3. Say /ao Shogun AO/ED Shogun AO (the path to the notecard) 4. Say /on on Trying it now... * It's smooth as silk * My problem with overriding sits even when I didn't want to seems fixed

Most AOs won't stop the nod intentionally because they don't look for it. Stands that override the head movement can sort of accidentally stop it though.
The culprit is 5c682a95-6da4-a463-0bf6-0f5b7be129d1 aka talk. A script just to kill this might be a little excessive, but one way to kill it would be to poll for AGENT_TYPING with llGetAgentinfo, then try killing that animations periodically until a bit after typing stops. I think llGetAnimationList might pick it up too (this function doesn't pick up everything, so test that one).

There is a 'typing restore attachment' at Abranimations that basically restores the typing animation for avatars who are using priority 4 animations in their AOs. The typing anim doesn't include the head bob. It may not work all the time in 'no script' areas.

Could someone else verify I don't see any conditional stuff pointing back to settings there, no. The interesting place in the source is llchatbar.cpp, in LLChatBar: endChatFromViewer, search for ANIM_AGENT_TALK and you can see where the whisper/say/shout animations are triggered.
