I was just curious to see how many users out there were running Second Life on Ubuntu, and if so, how you did it.

I used Wubi to install Ubuntu Hardy Heron to see what Linux was like.
Then I followed the instructions given by Bluesman Wycliffe in /263/fc/256205/1.html#post1969564 which are "download the Linux client, Extract it , and execute the secondlife.sh, ( choose either run , or run in terminal." The thread where I asked for help is at /263/fc/256205/1.html in the linux forum here, which is at /263/1.html _____________________

Me too, since the beginning.
I use Kubuntu, same thing but different. Download the viewer file to harddrive into a new folder you named secondlife, and extract/unzip it there. Open up and find the secondlife file. Just click/double click it to run. No installation necessary. _____________________

I know someone Ubuntu, coincidentally. Don't spread this around, but I'm expecting a very, very large money transfer from him, via the Central Bank of Nigeria. When I'm a millionaire, I promise to give you all a cut if you're nice to me.

I've run SL on Kubuntu Feisty, Gutsy and now Hardy. It's spot easy, just unpack the bz2 file somewhere convenient (like your ~/) and run the "secondlife" script.
I've had sound problems under Hardy that I've yet to solve, but I've also not tried all that hard. |

I just started using Ubuntu, and I'm rather impressed. I'm thinking of ditching Microsoft Windows entirely. I wonder how soon it'll be until Microsoft starts going free with their operating systems, as well. It was Vista that made me look to Linux.
I appreciate the feedback. Thanks a ton. |
