Could someone verify that babble is not usuable in IM's, or I am I not doing something right? Works in Chat. Seem like that is where you would need it the most. I am sure everyone around you would not like to continuously see translations.

Hi Daxx and welcome to the forum :)

Babbler does indeed NOT work in IM, it only works in open chat in script-enabled areas (or above 100m in the sky, I found out today).
Generally speaking, I'm pretty sure no-one objects to seeing Babbler used in chat, although that would depend on what you're chatting about ;)

Hope that helps
:)

I haven't tried this, but you could experiment with enabling "Include IM in Chat History" in your preferences. That might work, at least translating from them to you.

That's a cool thought actuallly. And If you use the De-Babbler too and have both parties enable that option, this might just work!
Gonna have to try that later

Thanks, but what is de-babbler? I have babbler and in chat I can see e.g. both my english to french and their french to english. What does de-babbler do extra?

I don't know anything about this product (so I could be wrong) but I doubt that will work. I assume it's listening on channel 0 (public chat) for text, sends that text off to be translated, gets the tranlated text, and then chats that text back out on channel 0. Clicking the "Include IM in Chat History" does not chat the IM messages out on channel 0 (out to the public chat); it just makes it appear (to you only) there.

@ Daxx...... my Babbler only works one way, the Debabbler works the other way?

(confused)

@ Hugsy....but if you were using both Babbler and De-Babbler, would that work? (sorrry, bit blonde here :) )

Either one confuses and bugs me when I tried to use it.

Well I'm using an old-ish freebie, so that could be the difference I suppose. Still pretty useful though.

Like I said, I'm not familiar with the products. I presume they're listening on (and outputing to) the public chat. When you check "Include IM in Chat History", that does *not* put your IMs out on the public chat such that everyone/everything within range can see your IMs. It just puts the IMs in your own chat history window for you alone to see.

yay another feature suggestion for babbler... cut-n-paste on a private channel to translate specific bits of text (would be good for translating signage too)

The newest version of Babbler will additionally let you select avatars in your vicinity to translate from their language to yours for a 2-way translation device.
