hahahahaaaaahahaaaa, don't get me wrong, the lindens created a monster and I truly do feel for them with all the hard work they do holding it all together with 40,000+ simultaneous users. But I did get a good laugh just now when I logged in and then went to the blog to see what was going on with the search.

pano, i have to ask:
what is it you do with all your 16m plots? you seem to at least one on every sim i visit. theres never an ad on one, in fact there doesnt even seem to be an object at all on any of them. i dont understand the desire to have a single 16m plot on every sim on the grid. im sure there must be some reason, mind sharing? |

Yah, and of course the blog post saying "Resolved, search is fixed" has comments turned off so no one can post 'umm, no its still nonfunctional'.

MySQL is just a PITA sometimes...
But the alternative is to print your own money to be able to afford a enterprise database server only to find out they are plagued by the same problems. Unless you are doing boring old data warehousing, you are going to upset the DB at some point. |

I've noticed every time I crash my blimp the grid goes down.
I think it might be my fault! *ducks* |

you will never see LL move from an open source db. On the other hand they did adopt a completely closed source solution for voice! The irony is that although the SL voice component is closed source ad non-redistributable, as far as we can tell the Vivox SDK, which is the third party voice solution imposing these restriction seems to be entirely build using either open source for royalty free components! i dont see how that can be. i thought open source licence dictated that forks/derivatives had to remain open as well.

Sounds like you are thinking GNU and that is only in relation to modifications to the GNU based source. The Voice client is a closed piece of software that is under license from another company. |
