Hi
This is my first attempt at building...I’ve put together a building a little over 32m x32m and 61 prims. I want to link it. I select edit.. I select the whole building with the square, and select link... it links about 50 of the prims... and says unable to link, pieces too far apart... but they are all touching... also if I do the process again it may link a few more of the pieces that I was told were too far apart.. What am I doing wrong...?
Thanks for your help

Prims will be too far apart if the building is any more than 30 metres in any direction and you won't be able to link them.

You need to use Builders' Buddy, which is available for free in the Scripting Library, or Rez Foo, which has more useful features but you have to buy that system.

It does not matter if they touch, it is related to the distance of the most extreme prims and their size, bigger prims link over a greater distance then smaller prims, the amount of prims that fail depends in the order in wich they where selected because the linking appears to stop at the minute the 2 problematic prims try to link, trying to link them one by one might or might not help.

i believe you can only link 30x30x30 meters at a time..if i remember right..

you can highlight it all and take it into your inventory and it will take everything..or you could just get a rezzor and pack it in there..

Detailed explanation on linking limits:

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linkability_Rules

Extracted from that page:

From: someone
Kelly's Quick Overview:

* Two pieces can link if their bounding boxes would completely fit within a "Linkability Sphere".

* The size of the Linkability Sphere is between 2m and 54m diameter, depending on the scale of the two pieces being linked.

* Specifically the size is 3 times the sum of both object's bounding sphere radius plus 2 meters, up to a maximum of 54m.

* If linking more than two pieces, treat any 2 pieces that can link by the above rule as 1 piece whose scale encompasses both pieces.

* Repeat until everything is linked.

At the small extreme: two tiny prims can be linked if they are within about 2 meters from each other.

At the large extreme: the largest linked object that can be created must fit within a sphere with a diameter of 54 meters.

that isn't linked, that's coalesced, and has it's own set of issues.

Sometimes you can trick a big linkset into linking.. depending on which prim is the parent (yellow one). To choose a single prim to be parent, when they're all linked and highlighted, hold down shift and click the one you want.. this will unselect it. now hold down shift and click it again. Then link.

Sometimes, if you can get the parent prim close to the middle (like a floor or ceilling), then it will be willing to link the walls. Sometimes it won't. RezFaux, RezFoo, JexTone EasyREZ (the one I use).. they're all good solutions for this problem in terms of non-mobile structures..

i know it's not linked.. it's just another way of getting it into your inventory as one piece..if you don't have a rezzer it's a neat little trick at a sandbox if you want it all at once..
