You Tube TVs

I picked up a free You Tube TV and Video box that has proven to be rather temperamental. It will just not play at all from time to time. Now I want to add a Search function to it, but wondered if getting the TVs with the whole package included (converter box and search) would not be a better idea, even if I had to pay for it. What I worry about is that after paying for the package TV, I will find out that the playback problems are inherent in the technology.

Does anyone know if the commercial TV are more reliable than the freebie ones?

While developing my mediaviewer, I noticed the following things:

1. Streams seemed pretty reliable. I didn't see a lot of trouble with mp4/quicktime streams breaking/stopping. Although i'm working on a high end system with a 20mb internet pipe and latest versions of quicktime etc. So YMMV

2. Switching media (esp. different types, so going from video to web) etc. can sometimes cause issues, even causing the complete SL client to crash.


My suggestion would be, try several of the existing demo systems of mediaplayers out there (there are a lot, and they generally all have a demo model rezzed). And try to play the same videos/clips on all, to see if it's related to your client or the player.

I paid for the Youtube tv I had never could figure out instructions, with most
recent mandatory update for sl I would crash every time my media and youtube tv
was on.
My friend had tv and the receiver out and he noticed non-group members were changing
his television set which annoying to him.
Crashes were the most annoying part of having the youtube tv for me, it just easier to go watch it on youtube then in sl.

they are as reliable as the server they are being hosted on, some are better than others, honestly I just make my own, any hosted .mov file will do, the Apple site has a tonne of media, you just need the url to bounce it into SL.

That is really helpful if you understand how to do the scripts and how to get the tv
to work but if you can't even figure out that then anything you put in code you're
not going to understand is real problem. Or the script for media go to show something on tv
on your computer every time you turn it on and crash.
Or at least mine. I don't get certain things, no matter how well they are explain it
seems

Open the script. Find the web address. Insert new address. Save. Reset Script. Done!

When the YouTube viewers work, do the viewers see the same thing at the same time?

I assume so there is way to change this my boyfriend did but I have no clue but
he was like in another area of land like 3000 meters below me.
I have no clue how he did another Youtube channel though.

I will try that next time I feel like experimenting providing I have access to a script and I don't crash first.

Not with YouTube videos. They are loaded on demand.

So the only way to watch them synchronized is that you have to be within viewing distance with the others you want to watch the video with, and then start the video.

This is unlike streaming videos, for example Classic TV feeds. With streaming video people can drop in and start their video player and it will start playing the ongoing stream wherever it happens to be at the moment.

FD, try using the wikiTiPi HUD to control your parcel media (might not work on group owned land).

Wear the HUD and select memory > goto > sounds > media, choose a source from the dropdown screen and hit "connect".

You can add URLs to your wikiTiPi account on the web site and import YouTube playlists making them available inworld.
