Is there such a thing? do anyone else backup their inventory? im a backup freak but never thought about my SL inventory..as it grows and knowing the $L ive put into it this has become a desire of mine..

Here's a post I found in the forum of one such thing but there were no replys to it....can anyone confirm if this works or have used/experienced it? Or are there other options out there?

There's no legal-under-TOS way to do it that I'm aware of.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Is Second Inventory in violation of the TOS?

Would not help with damn near any of my inventory. From the website:

Second Inventory has a copyright protection system that allowes you to duplicate the item only if you have the Copy/Mod/Transf permissions, or if you are the original creator of the content.

Second Inventory is a great program. I love it. But.. it is made with the intention of serving creators.. not as a general back up of your entire invo. Any full perm item can be backed up/restored and even carried to other grids (opengrid, openlife..etc).

For what it is intended for it is incredible. But that post was misleading in that it made it sound like it does it all.

When a nasty asset server problem killed all my backups I had in a single prim a awhile ago (including no copy stuff that I just didn't use often) I lost many of my own creations. I can get them back if someone has one thanks to this program.. but if I had had it back then I would still have all my things I made from back then. Lots of experimental prototypes, etc.

One way to partially back-up inventory is to create an alt account as a general dogsbody. Give them folders or boxes containing all your favourite creations, ***with permissions set*** on all items such that they can be returned to you. Then if you have an invo loss specific to your account, the alt can help. If the loss is object specific rather than account specific........I dunno!

Yep, that can work too. I just trust my harddrive tons more then I do the LL asset servers for obvious reasons. :D

Modifying the item should result in a new asset rather than the alt simply referencing the original asset which still leaves a single point of failure (assets with references shouldn't be vanishing from the database, but it still happens).
