Ok guys I need some help finding a good host for streaming music to SL

This is what I need:

- Streams at 112kbps or more
- 50+ listeners
- Allows Live DJ's
- Ability to stream from a FTP site (preferably one they provide)
- Ability to play ads every so many songs
- Ad Free

I think those are the most important things I need to do.. I tried 365 but unless I plan on paying alot of money, they run their own random ads, and tell me what I can and can not play :(

So anyone have any suggestions?

in world you can rent a 100listener 128k stream from 2700-4000L a month.

you are not going to find any that let you stream from FTP and 365 charges that much as its paying the license fees that is why you can't play everything under the sun.

why do you want to stream from ftp? you mean all your mp3s that you can't legally stream without paying the broadcasters license fee? and thats not cheap and is going to be even bigger.

I rent one I use it to play live and to DJ, search ASACP and BMI and look at what you will pay to broadcast, the 365 deal is the cheaper way to go.

edit to add:
or you can stream all the music you want and keep the server out of the public yellow pages and hope they don't come after you. (lots so that ;) )

live365.com has a whole selection of packages available for streaming, you can even get some with royalties included so you can DJ without fear the RIAA's iron fist of fury.

I would like to stream from a FTP so it is streaming from thier server and not from my computer and it can be streaming even when there isn't a live DJ...
I am not complaining about the prices with 3656, they are very reasonable BUT they also play ads in the middle of songs and what not, and unless I want to pay 90 bucks a month, thats how they do it, from what I understand.

If you have the right software, you can stream from your PC while you aren't there... though you will have to pay a bundle for it. Check out SAM3, that's what I used to use when I DJ'd in SL. Excellent stuff, that.

You are entering a realm where you are going to end up paying a buttload of money no matter what you do. There aren't going to be too many services which offer bandwidth intensive hosting like media streaming cheap... especially with content licensing considerations.

Yes I know... I have SAM3.. I do not want to leave my computer running all the time... I am fine with pricing if it fits my needs...

All I am asking if someone knows of a good place that offers what I am asking..

Sorry for giving you information you already knew. Had I known you knew I would have known not to tell you what you knew as you would have known it and I would have known that you knew it. But since I did not know you knew, here we are.

You've already been there... live365.com does it all... for a price. There are other media streaming hosts out there... but I have had good experience with live365, hence my recommendation. I would imagine that you will find their pricing to be competitive.

Just trying to help

No problemo :) I'll ask around and see if I get any more information for you... I think some of my old DJ pals are still around.

"DualCast" streaming
10-26-2007 07:53
I was recently looking at streaming servers and found that SpacialAudio, makers of SAM, offers a DualCast option that allows you to upload playlists which run when you are not actively DJing; in their words "when you turn your computer off at night".

http://www.spacialaudio.com/knowledge/question.php?qstId=476 has more information.

I haven't used any of Spacial's servers so have no experience to offer. (but do own and use SAM).

I found that Mouse2Mouse in the UK is an excellent streaming host, and they have some very good pricing deals where you can double the amount of slots you can have for the same price.

Hi Sensual,

We can provide that. We provide a Shoutcast control panel which allows you to "switch" between live broadcasting and a random (or ordered) playlist based on mp3s you've uploaded. The ads would be mp3s just like the music m3s are which can be random or ordered. The pricing would be basically be $2/mo USD per month, per listener. This includes the disk space you'd need on the server for the mp3s you upload. Please IM me in-world if you have any other questions or need any further info.

Live365 does not allow connections through a third party, like SL. It is a violation of their ToS.
