Some small viewer-add on that lets you use the double amount of attachment points.

If you're using an official / 1.23 viewer please have a look here:

Boy, is your steup for extra attachments compatible with Emeralds? Will users of one viewer see attachments correctly placed on a user of the other viewer?

Yes, it'll work or better show Emerald attachments. The origin is from Emerald but I had to make some changes, otherwise the viewer would crash.

You can use my installer if you use a 1.22 based viewer like Imprudence, Rainbow or Cool. For the official 1.23 or other 1.23 builds please get the avatar_lad.xml file from Emerald, as in the second link I posted.

Most excellent! That's just what I've been hoping Alt-viewer creators would do!

Just added another version for 1.23. Works perfectly for the official viewer. On my blog, link above.

Enjoy,
Boy

Just be aware that people with standard viewers won't see attachments in the correct place.

As long as you don't mind being seen having a necklace up your ass or a skirt around your left ear, that's fine.

@Sassy
Exactly, that's why I don't want to put it in a viewer distribution. But fact is LL abandoned any viewer development other than some community work on Snowglobe. There was not a single fix for how long now, 7 months, to the crappy adult forced 1.23 version? They are working behind closed doors on SL2 which we can almost be certain will be closed source and that will either be the end of alternative viewers, or it will be a complete failure of LL's viewer development. The latter is likely as LL can't change the platform to only support their own viewers (there is a huge OpenSim competition already) and people would not want to go back from advanced viewer features, with Emerald leading now, to something the lab wants us to use.

So, what can we do? Work on improving alternatives that are better, more feature rich, easily usable and enjoyable. One step towards better viewers is wider incorporation of such usability features like more attachment points the lab continues to ignore for 2 years now. There are many other things in the pipeline, not Linden's tho. And it's only a small indication of success if you look at the number of people using alternative viewers with again Emerald being no. 1.

Here is a small addition for all of you who would like to stick to the official viewers for your own reasons, it is a simple add-on and it could have been implemented a long time ago. You are invited to use it, or see flying attachments in the air of more and more people :)

Boy, I agree with you entirely, my comment was just in case anyone chose to attach their skirt to say pelvis2 and found themselves banned and AR'd for inappropriate content in a PG region because someone with a trigger happy action on the ban and AR buttons saw their skirt up around their ears (and no panties on) and didn't bother to engage in dialog.

If people don't thing others are this quick to shoot, some are. Just saying :)

I see newbies frequently banned from one welcome centre because *some* of the greeters there have assumed that because they're naked and not getting dressed that they're out to cause trouble. Most of us can fiugre out that they're just confused, stumbling at the interface and can't figure out how but time and time again I see it.

This goes double for content developers. I ran into one last week who apparently didn't understand this and used the Spine 2 attachment point in a product. Naturally, if the customer wasn't using Emerald, it didn't work very well.

This does not surprise me at all. I have had some of my favorite dress store groups tell their group members to go get this viewer so they can all have these extra attach points. And one of them did specifically mention that they would soon be releasing something to take advantage of it ---- yes, I sent an IM warning about it.

I disagree with the "advanced viewer features" phrase. I used Emerald for a while and I didn't see any features that fit that description - ok, one feature - IM encryption, but that shouldn't even exist and the way it was implemented was much more trouble than it was worth. The rest of the stuff isn't exactly advanced features - it's more in the way of tinkering with LL's code than adding advanced features.

I hope you are wrong about LL not being able to only accept their own viewer, because that's exactly what I'd like them to do.

Just to be pedantic with regards to software engineering, adding more attachment points is more in the line of functionality than usability, though I suppose it arguable.

Usability refers to things that reduce the learning curve, reduce the error rate, simplify or speed up tasks, etc. Adding attachment points, though extremely valuable, doesn't make any specific operation easier. It does avoid a artificial problem that's due to an artificial limit (namely figuring out the best place to attach things), or the confusion that occurs when an expected item is detached unintentionally, which is why I say that it's arguable.

Now if you wanted to enhance usability, how about using a graphic instead of a linear menu for the Attach operation? Or at least reorganize the menu so that related points are together. (Why are pecs, chest, arms, and shoulders in different parts of the menu?)

No, no, no. You don't understand.

It won't be long before we can all pretty much assume that anyone using the LL viewer is a clueless permanewb. Way I see it, you'll have asshats banning people for using a decent client (as you describe above) just as often as we see them banning people for not being at least 6' tall.
