Translation help, please

Group project, anyone?

I'm looking to build an info display board to assist new residents who wander onto my property from a nearby infohub. It would contain a flag graphic for a number of countries and at minimum a notecard or landmark giver for the one place a newbie resident of each nationality might prefer to be rather than my place or an English infohub. If prims allow I might include buttons for other things, like shopping or tutorials.

I'll give a copy to anyone who contributes a translation, and if I get broad support I'll make it freely available on slexchange. Of couse anyone else who wants to do something similar is welcome to use any translations that get posted. I'm making no property claims to the idea for this.

So, if you would please, I'd like help translating the following text into a number of languages.

The text I'm looking for should be what you might find on a sign. I can type these words into babelfish but I have no clue if it gives reasonable translations for this purpose. For example, if I want an English-to-Japanese translation of "welcome area" I get

歓迎された区域

If you saw that on a sign in Japan, would you snicker?

Translating back I get "The area which is welcomed". Playing with other words until I get something that translates back reasonably well, I can do this...

meeting area -> 会合区域 -> Rendezvous area

Not bad, but someone who knows Japanese can probably do better. See what I'm after? In short, I don't want to make signs that say "rotate many foodstuffs"

There are translators in-world that you can hire to do this for you. They will have different rates and their classifieds/notices usually state what languages they cover. I think you can find them in Search by using some different key words like translator, French and so on.
You could also ask in any groups you are a member of. Would any of your neighbors be able to help, you never know who could speak another language?

The Babbler has limitations and you could spend a lot of time trying to get the correct translation. I've never looked for translation websites online, I would assume most will charge a fee. It wouldn't hurt to take a look though.

Just in case you simply forgot of some other languages used in SL I wouild like to give you Polish equivalents:

Welcome Area = Obszar powitalny
Tutorial = Podręcznik
Shopping = Zakupy
Info = Informacja

Indeed, they do. I paid US$40 to have my company motto translated to Latin, to be sure my motto wasn't "rotate many foodstuffs" Clearly for a project like this I'm not going to spend that kind of money for each language, or even half that much.

But I'd hate to have promised this for free and then only get a few translations and have to pay for the rest, only to give them away, so I've edited my original post with the new terms, which are...

If you contribute a translation I'll give you a copy of whatever I come up with, even if I don't end up finishing the project. If I get broad support (most of the translations I asked for) I'll pay for the last few and make the thing freely available for anyone on slexchange. And of course I'm not claiming ownership of the translations that get submitted. I encourage anyone interested in doing something like this to use these translations.

They have a board with seven nationalities. Four of them give a "places where they speak your language" notecard that I received in another thread, and three of them give more notecards that I'll have to run through babelfish

The plan is to give a notecard with a few landmarks on it when the info column or a flag is clicked, and a single landmark when the landmark column is clicked. I went with the text "social gathering" for the second column, and the idea is that you'd get a landmark for that one place you'd best be able to connect with the social scene of your country in SL.

I'd appreciate any translation corrections for "social gathering", and I'm also open to suggestions for which landmarks I should include.

They have words translation in the browers dictionary if you have one.

social gathering point = Treffpunkt; translated literally and more general in meaning = Willkommensbereich

Tutorial = Anleitung (if something specific is explained from 1. to do until the last), more general = Erklärung

Shopping = Einkaufen (but most young Germans meanwhile also say "Shopping" (anglicism)

Info = Info or Information

OMG.. ROTFL.. cleaning monitor of coffee. Please, never use any software to translate something to Polish..

Your version sounds like "Items' collecting with help of social workers"
Correct version : "Zebranie towarzyskie".

However it is very official version. There is a lot of Polsih words that could be used more flexibly according to context..

Your Swedish translation (samkvämen) looks wrong, i think its samlingsplats, but i could be wrong (it is a word in Swedish though). Although Swedish and Norwegian are quite similar, there are some differences.

The Silver Stream Network system, can support all kinds of media, including audio, movie and static pictures of various formats. You could use either static screens, which the media is triggered to show to any passing avatar, its playlist, due to the functionality of the system, it does not need media parcelling, and can support playing media to large groups of avatars within each screens range. Multi-media streams limitations per parcel have been eradicated in SL for over a year using this system.

To understand the system 'visually', imagine a large (re-sizable) prim which is 100% transparent and phantom, inside is a media screen, whenever avatars walk within the VR media space, the screen will detect them and play its media. Any other VR media spaces created by other screens, will do the same for any avatars within its range. As is sensor is bound to its own screen, it will not switch any other screen outside its range. You can stack these VR media spaces vertically and horizontally, even within the same parcel. That is a very simple way of explaining how the system works, in reality the VR space is formed by an adjustable ranged and shaped passive sensor projecting from the front of the screen. In tests, we had 30+ screens in a single parcel all playing different media playlists to groups of people stood at different screens. In WBA-Advertisings showroom, we have around 13 screens all with different playlists, on 2 floors.

What's more, you can issue each avatar their own vHUD system that would play media based on what is in its playlist, this can take the form of diferent languages. It also handles RSS feeds, Flckr and http linking. The vHUD can work on any sim that is Silver Stream enabled, which is around 1/3rd of SL currently and growing. To enable a whole sim, only requires anywhere on that sim, a single prim server is dropped by a land owner, or deeded to group land. It doesn't matter if it is only 1 square meter of land on that sim, it enables the whole sim.

The Silver Stream Network also supports collaboration tools, such as Blackboard, WhiteBoard and Powerpoint simulations.

The system is based on passive sensors, so will not add to any lag on a sim. It is client interactive only.
