Saw a short list of some of SL's warnings today re: banned people and IP address tracking.
I'm using free wireless DSL that is available all over my city. Can I be tracked in any way via this system? Are we all just snack food (even for government authorities)?
In terms of machine security I have all the 'usual suspects' installed: Firewalls, antitrojan, etc....
Also followed advice from new friends in SL about privacy settings/info publicly available.
Is there anything else I should be doing to protect my privacy at home with regards to this?
Thanks

Technically you can be tracked, however this can only be effective if you use a login to access the system from a landing page (the wireless internet - not SL) and are therefore traceable by IP address and login.
If you just connect directly, then you are not traceable at all.

Yes. You're in a coffeeshop on 1st & National. Put down the biscotti. It's not good for you.

If you are in the USA, probably. And be sure to thank your elected representatives for their spineless acquiescence to having your rights trampled.

Who are you concerned about being tracked by? Other residents? Lindens? The government?

If someone tries to track you they will see a map of the city with your signal appearing as a flashing target symbol. If you are using wireless they will see multiple symbols all over the map and they will say, "It's no good he's bouncing around the free wireless networks! No way we can track him!" It's true. I saw it in CSI.

From: Sindy Tsure Who are you concerned about being tracked by? Other residents? Lindens? The government? Well...the Lindens don't really worry me. No...not so much, really......It's those other two that you mentioned.
