Just wondered if LL ever deletes unused accounts... I often notice when i search for people., that a lot of accounts have empty profiles and I wonder how many are just people who joined, didnt like it, or got bored.. and don't use SL anymore... anyone know if LL has a rule about accounts which havent been used for a certain period of time? I guess people may have paid for items in their inventory so it could get tricky...

Hmmmm thoughts people?

well if they do the over all numbers of accounts logged in over time will drop. I don`t think LLabs want this to occur.

The only time LL deletes an account is if they perma-ban someone, or when the individual requests explicitly than an account be deleted. For example, I created on alt strictly as a test case. I told them later to delete the account. That alt no longer exists. They give you a month to change your mind when you ask for an account to be deleted.

A Premium Member who fails to pay their tier on land will lose the land, and if they also fail to renew their membership then LL will eventually delete their inventory. But even then the account itself remains valid. And if they sell the land and tier down to Basic before departing, they keep any inventory.

A Basic level member who isn't in trouble with LL can leave SL, and their account will still be there, years later, with all inventory intact. Any in-world assets will remain, as long as the landholder whose land they are on does not return the prims. If they were renting land or mall space, one would expect that their landlord would eventually reclaim the space and send their prims back.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

After they dropped the registration requirement and now also made registering alts free ... I don't think so.

Incidentally, even if someone is perma-banned from SL, any prims they left in-world will remain, so long as the land owner for the land they are on allows the prims to remain there. Vendors left by banned merchants even continue to operate. The banned merchant can't get the money (the spent money just goes away), but the customer does get the goods.

I saw a blog post a while back where they said they would be emailing old accounts that have not logged in for a long time. If they did not reply to the email within a certain period of time, their assets (land) would be taken from them, and they would be reimbursed for it. I don't recall if they said they would terminate the accounts. LL probably wants to make it appear that this game has a lot of users in case they want to sell it in the future.

Nope. It was that the old 'lifetime premium plus free 4096 tier' users who hadn't logged in in a long time were being emailed and asked if they would like LL to auction their land for them. If they don't reply, nothing happens.

Recently, we have received a number of requests from the Second Life community to seize land from long-term inactive Residents on the Main Grid. While we are unprepared to reclaim land from Residents who haven’t logged recently, we’ve decided to embark on a different approach, one we feel will produce more palatable results for both active and inactive Residents. Keeping your concerns in mind, we have reached out though e-mail to Lifetime Residents who own land and yet haven’t logged during the past 12 months.

It goes without saying that we would all prefer to see those Residents return and participate again in the Second Life community. In this vein, we invited them to rejoin. In the event that those Residents are unable to return and in keeping with our commitments to active Residents who would prefer to see unused land folded back into the larger SL community, we have offered to auction inactive Resident land and deposit all L$ proceeds into the corresponding Second Life L$ accounts. We hope this approach satisfies all parties involved, and we will keep the community apprised of further developments.

Robin also clarifies this in the comments section..

I’d like to make it very clear that we will only auction off land belonging to lifetime account holders if they respond to us that they would like us to take that action. We are not planning to declare eminent domain; only ask people who are inactive if they’d 1) like to return or 2) have us sell off land they aren’t using and return the proceeds to them.

Also, @4 is correct in stating that this would only apply to people who have lifetime accounts, and therefore 4096 m2 of land free of tier payments. We would not ever repossess land from a customer who is actively paying for their land, regardless of how long it was since their last long-in.
