I am having trouble logging into SL right now. It says "there might be a problem with your internet connection or Second Life servers, try again in a few minutes, go to our help site, or try to teleport home" or something like that. I tried to teleport home but it says "you have been disconnected from the region" and the client will close. There's no problem with my internet connection (I think) as I'm able to surf the SL forum freely, and use msn, etc. I checked the status site and it said "pilot restart", though I am not sure what that means. It means the entire server is unavailable to residents right now?

No, the grid is available. They are upgrading the server code right now and apparently some bugs have creeped in, causing them to restart the sims that have the new code.
What you might want to do is go to the login screen, go Edit/Preferences/General and check the little box that says, "Show start location on Login Screen." With that enabled, you'll see the pull down screen below your name.. pull it down to "Type Region Name." Try Oak Grove for the region and see if that will help you.
If it doesn't, try rebooting your modem and any router between you and the modem.

Thanks for reply. I tried Oak Grove however it still has the same error. Even if connection is blocking SL shouldn't the SL log-in screen (with pictures and status etc) be blocked/disabled also? I am in a hotel right now, so I have no access to the networking equipment. It's a wired connection with a cable from a wall outlet x3

Then, it sounds like the problem is not with your laptop, but with their network. In this case, I'd recommend asking for the hotel's tech support to trouble shoot the connection.
And I haven't dealt with site blockings, so I don't know enough to venture an opinion on them.

I had this exact same thing happen to me at home 2 days ago. SL acted like it was down for 7 hours, while my connection was fine, i could load every other site and do everything exept SL.. then after 7 hours it connected like nothing was wrong.

Since July 3rd I keep getting booted out of SL when I try to TP anywhere. The same in SnowGlobe viewer and in Release Candidate viewer. This happens about 90% of the time..
My connection seems Ok with speeds around 6.5 Mbps
So annoying
Stay safe out there

For me that is the biggest problem of SL.

I sent a ticket and the Lindens suggested the hotel might been blocking the "port" of SL, whatever that means. Hmm it is odd since I doubt a hotel in a tourist region would know about SL x3 Anyways I'll try to see if this port can be opened but seriously doubt it, just have to wait until work here is finished before logging into SL. Thanks for replies everyone.
