You probably need to join the group that owns the land before you can build or place stuff on it.

You could find the group details from the 'about land' panel. It's just possible the group is open membership, in which case you can join by clicking the 'join' button.
That is unlikley, you'll probably need to IM the land owner instead - but it's worth a try.

As for security systems - I know nothing except how it hurts when they kick you out!!!

What Conifer Said. You will likely need to be in the group. Also, for the security system and door I would suspect that the owner would need to add you to the list of people who can control it.
How long ago did you start the rent? I would speak to the owner as they may be able to help you better than we can...they have the permissions etc, and knows how everything works. Also, give them a bit of time. If you have only just started the rent, they will have work to do to change perms and add you to the group etc. Plus, it will also depend on how busy they already are :)

When you rented your place the owner probably invited you to join a group. So put on that group and you should be able to set objects, access security, etc.

check the land and see what group it belongs to then search for that group and see if it allows you to join last landlord i had did it that way so you could get into the grp even if he wasnt online

for future reference though check and see what all is involved in the place you want to rent at ahead of time so you dont waste your time and money

Well, L$900 is less than $4, so think of it as pretty low expense for valuable SL education.

Tip: Contact your landlord before renting if there is anything unclear re group, security, etc.

Hmm ... You never know. There could be dozens of reasons. Maybe he is sick, his system crashed or something. Or he is travelling. Many fly-by-night landlords don't employ substitutes.

Next time, I strongly recommend to contact your new landlord before renting.

As I said, think of it as educational expense and move on. :o

I was just going to suggest sending the landlord a notecard rather than IM - but hopefully you've caught up with Quaintly inworld and are getting assistance.

Good luck Kef! :)

As an Estate Manager I agree that if little or no information is given then don't rent.

Sounds as though you have to be entered onto the door and added to the group.

Once you've joined the group (REMEMBER to wear you group tag to place items!!!) you can send a message out to other renters if you have an problems.

Try clicking on the rent box it really should either give you a note card or let you see a message giving you instructions.

Def drop a note rather than IM because if they've been offline for a while their IMs will be capped but the note should get through.

OH and point out to them that you have almost wasted 2 days but then of course the might just lock you out and keep your money so that bit is upto you.

If it's a small rental company then there just might be the one person who does all and we all know that sometimes RL is taking priority over SL so maybe and this is nothing agains small renters somewhere bigger sometimes offers more staff so there is more of a chance of catching someone online or someone sorts it out as soon as they are online.
