So, im guessing someone had a RL fantasy of the old-school break-in rave. However, at least in my area & time in RL, those were typically abandoned or vacant industrial space, not some dude's rented land.

While this ended up being accepted by the land owner (im guessing?) - had this happened on my land, i'd have had a different reaction.

I disagree with this, and think it has potential to cause more harm than good. "Serves him right" is a bad excuse, as setting up security on land can be pretty confusing, especially of the land owner/renter is on a sim that doesn't permit private access.

Wondering what other's opinions are, from both sides would be interesting.

Were they 'breaking' into a home or just an empty mall/outdoor space part of a sim. I recently found an empty industrial looking mall and I don't think the owner would have minded. _I_ wouldn't have minded. But a heads up would be appreciated. Or at least an invite...

Cool. So if I start a dance club, rather than trying to hire campers / live DJ's or whatever to generate the initial traffic, I can just send out a mass of IM's

"HEY DEWDZ, THIS PLASE BEEZ WIDE OPEN. LETS PARTY ALL NIGHT LONG!!1!1one1!"
"WE'RE TAKIN' OVER DIS JOINT. COME PARTY NOW AND TELL UR FRIENDZ"

how did they set the music stream for teh dj's to play music on the land

or did you just dance to whatever happened to be playing there.

i've seen this happen manytimes on estate land where they sell parcels for 1Linden and the owners are offline. ppl buy the land set up clubs and party till everything gets returned by a angry estate owner a hour later.

good times

Wow, do people actually set up the $1 buy on estate land and let the new "owner" build on it without requiring a group invite or more money first? That's just amazingly..... less than intelligent. Talk about inviting trouble!

personally i would welcome ppl using my land in this fashion. I construct builds to be used. I usually watch them go unappreciated..and boxed up placed into my inventory.

I guess its the lure of "we aren't supposed to be here" that is so attractive.

Maybe i should build homes and place "private residence" signs everywhere to get more traffic. :p

I do know my parcels music is strange classical organ stuff (not something i chose.. but very nice to build to).

I have noticed a lot of newbs((1 day old)) winding up on my front door stoop though..is there way to find out if my parcel is where LL is dumping noobs after orientation island?

When you buy estate land, you own the land as far as the grid cares. It's just like mainland in that regard. It is in your name. You set the groups and rights at your whim. Whoever owns if sim is taking the place of LL and can always over rule the "owners."

It's done on estate land for rent with full ownership permissions. Sometimes it is a bit more than L$1 but it is usually nominal and you are supposed to pay a rental box on the land for your monthly rent within 24 hours. There's little harm in it for the owner except that he is denied the possibility of potential renters for 24 hours but that's no different than potential renters that back out. I can see how it could become a problem if people did what these break-in party hosts did repeatedly on the same land or estate but in that case the land owner can just ban all the people at the party from his or her estates and/or bump up the entry fee.
