Hot Wax is the dance club in Rushdie's Satanic Verses where folks dance to amazing Indian/reggae fusion and, every night, vote on which wax effigy of a public figure to melt down, accompanied by a soul-cleansing cacaphony of howlzzz of execration.

You could really do this club right in SL.

Why aren't SL clubs interesting? Do creative and interesting clubs exist?

Clubs in SL aren't money-making, so why do it if it isn't fun? I'm tempted to make a club that is actually fun to go to. You could do this around any theme ... let's take a Mythology-themed club (Lindal actually has one, but I've no idea what happens there. There are others in SL):

** How about a monthly "myth" theme? Let's say this month it was Leda and the Swan.

** I would have few "events", at strictly scheduled times, and they would be really special. List of possible events for "Leda" month might include:
--- Attendees volunteer to RP the myth in CHAT with one of SL's many great erotic RP guys in the role of the swan, for the entertainment of all (this myth is a real erotic playground). Obviously, the entertainer does the heavy lifting here ... you'd expect the volunteer to be embarrassed but happy.
--- Best swan-inspired outfits, including avatars, pets, whatever
--- Guest performance by someone from the SL ballet who's danced Swan Lake (if they've done it)
--- RP kidnap clinic night! (In some versions of the myth, Zeus takes Leda away for a wild night.) Want to go to CARP but don't know what to say? Frequent kidnappers and victims will be in the club live, teaching you how it's done!!!

** I would also limit (that's right, LIMIT) the number of people in the club at any one time, to guarantee that avies could use their AOs and wear their most primful outfits. Why else do we have them?

** I would commission a special couples dance, exclusive to my club. The dance would include an actual kiss.

Have people seen clubs like this anywhere?

In my experience, scripted kisses usually end up with you either getting your eyeball tongued or lacking any actual physical contact. Then again, you can make up the distance with the 'blowkiss" gesture.

I'd patronize any club that bans audible gestures (see previous thread about people HOWLZING like lunatics for no particular reason) and text gestures that spam half of my screen before fading away.
In addition to several HOWLZZZ (at a Valentines' dance), we were treated to a poorly drawn image of a howling dog of some sort that I haven't seen since the day ascii sigs were all the rage. Followed by about twenty lines of:

Moron Dimwit: KISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

wtf?

Sorry, having a pissy day. I may need to dance.

As for a mythological themed, RP sorta club - cool :)

Is that place still open? That was one of my early favorites, it's great. I haven't been there in ages.

I'm with ya here Brann...please let me know if you find one :)

Checked out the Arabian Ballroom the other day (granted it was in the EST zone daytime) but enjoyed the exotic theme and music (something a bit different) and dance balls positioned nicely so no one was bumping into others as well as some nice cuddle spots.

First time I got to wear my Indian sari and felt right at home!

Oh, and no spam or audible gestures in sight!!!

I don't know anything about Rushdie or Lida, but I will take the chance plug my favorite club in SL -- Pink Rose club on Pink Rose island.

They have themed dances every weekend (Friday & Saturday nights @ 7pm) and the place is owned by two of the friendliest people you'll ever meet in SL. The dances are usually well-attended and the regulars there are all great folk.

When you said hot wax, I expected something a bit different. But this is good too. :)

LOL I did too

One of the advantages of SL is you never need hair removal.

Yes. Hair removal before playing with hot wax is definitely recommended...

I'm pretty sure no one has ever typed that particular sentence before in all of recorded history. Congratulations.

An actual kiss? Are you coming out here or do I need to fly to you?

I also had other ideas running through my head when I read "hot wax", but not of the shaving kind :)

Sounds like you have very good ideas there Nika. I am rarely inworld at night, unfortunately, but there are rare instances where I have a full week of evenings to fill up and this kind of atmosphere is very intriguing.

I don't usually go to clubs, not my thing, but if you could get rid of the the problems which make going unenjoyable (the aforementioned Howling most specifically), this kind of roleplay club sounds like the kind of place I might like going to :)

I might actually enjoy a club like that. Great ideas. I try the club thing every once in a while, but it's got to be just the right amount of people. Too many and I can't move at all, too few and there are these long awkward silences. . . I'm not really into the meat market aspect, it's just nice to get out and act silly with others sometimes.

As for the howling thing, muting is effective for that. I don't want to curb anyone's enthusiasm, but I can't understand why they can't be more creative, joke about the songs, or about each other, or about SL. That's when it's really fun.

Please keep us posted.

I wish I could find a club that plays 80's music
Where the dj talks over the music
Where most of the people there are the staff
Where people wear a ton of bling
Where they host reminds you to tip everyone at least every five minutes
And most importantly
Where someone yells "Hoooooooooo!" every 10 seconds.

Man, if I could find a club like that I would be so happy.
