Hello all,

I'm pretty damn frustrated. :/

From reading the compatibility info for SL, it looks like I have a compatible graphics card. So, I don't believe that's the issue.

I've updated my MSI Geoforce FX5600XT-VTDR128 (NVIDIA) card. Restarted the PC and when I start up SL it still says I haven't updated my FRIGGIN' DRIVERS!!

Any suggestions?

Something you miht try is that if you can get as far as the login screen, press CTRL-P to open the preferences menu, go to the "Adv. Graphics" tab and uncheck "Auto-detect graphics hardware on next startup." That *may* keep SL from nosing around in your video hardware and *might* help avoid what you're describing. No guarantees.

Same problem, upgraded drivers and now SL says they're "out of date or unsupported". Unfortunately, I cannot contact customer service (as the error message says I should) because my graphics chips really ARE unsupported, tho they worked more-or-less fine until this week.

If you do contact customer service and find a workaround, I would dearly love to hear it.

Meanwhile, you might want to try drivercleaner -- 10$, supposedly cleans up any kruft that might be lying around after your various installs. Someone in the forums recommended it a while ago. I'd try it, but I think I'll give up instead for the night.

There are actually some people who've had to roll their drivers BACK in order to be compatible with SL.

Yes, that's how this started. I rolled back to a version recommended in Jira, didn't work (instead my PC began blue-screening even when SL wasn't running). Uninstalled the downgrade, installed upgrade to current ... and got the error. Uninstalled SL ... cleaned registry ... reinstalled ... still the error.

Although the PC has stopped bluescreening when I'm running other things!

You may have a hardware problem with the card itself. Try to borrow someone elses video card and see if that works in your PC. If it does, then it's time to get a new card.

thanks, rooke, but very hard to do on a laptop with integrated video ... the hardware certainly seems fine, can look at 3D videos etc..

All driver version numbers that I can find are consistent and the most recent version for this laptop.

Add one more step to this. Go to the directory where the cache is stored, delete all files in this directory. When uninstalling and installing SL this folder is not altered, and there are files there which could be causing your problem.

Not sure where you are getting your updated drivers at but try this link which will download the newest drivers for the GeForce card you listed.

Hope that helps for you.

I'm sorry. :( I should have quoted who I was replying to. It was for the OP.
