SmartHeap annoys me....help, please!

This weird thing pops up with its "DOINK" noise every few days. I often crash after it pops up. Right now I've got it lurking in a window on my taskbar. I know it's something to do with Second Life as it has the green hand symbol on it. Someone said it crops up when Norton's doing something. I used to get it just on Fridays...now it appears at random.

Is there anything I can do to deal with it please?

Actualy Smart heap is a windows memory manager, though your right SL is causing the problem with memory leaks that end up causing the errors.

Are you using an older version of the Client? I used to get the same error all the time but have not had a smart heap crash in over a month using the latest clients or the latest cool viewer client.

Nope I'm using the latest version client after the scary stuff about security risks to your computer! Green fuzzy ethereal blobs are now a part of my Second Life!

I used to get Smart Heap errors and memory related crashes all the time with the 1.18 clients, but they finally disappeared with 1.19 and subsequent.

How much RAM do you have? You should have at least 2 GB, more if you are using Windows Vista.

Also, you should disable Norton and other background programs while using SL, if you're getting these sorts of errors. I would also get rid of the Norton Protected Recycle Bin.

Conduct routine computer maintenance...defrag your hard drives, run antispyware cleaners and a good registry cleaner. My computer guy likes PCTools' Registry Mechanic.

CCleaner is also good. And free.

This has been a problem for quite some time. I imagine with everyone having to update to the newest viewer this would increase slighlty. It was doing it for me as well Untill recent viewer updates. It was doing it really bad for me with 1.20.15 But has later smoothed out with other updates. There has been several JIRA issues reported about lame Smart heap popups.
