(Man, I am just FULL of topics today....)
What counts as an educational SIM? I notice the pricing is different from 'normal' to educational, and was wondering if that meant for educational institutes, etc, only, or if things like a sim dedicated to teaching building, scripting, and texturing would count. It's definitely educational, in a good way for SL as well.
I'm not trying to scam myself into the educational sim price, I'm just wondering what actually counts, and haven't been able to find anything telling me. (Note that I'm not great with the knowledge base. For some reason it doesn't like me.)

If you're a RL educator or represent a RL educational institution or a RL non profit organization then you qualify for educational pricing, everything else is the normal price.

Ah okies, thanks. That's a bit discriminatory against their own people =P But I do understand that, RL institutes have reputations to uphold, aren't likely to flake out, etc. SL institutions...well..who knows sometimes o.o

But I do understand that, RL institutes have reputations to uphold, aren't likely to flake out, etc. SL institutions...well..who knows sometimes o.o I know one teacher who owns her own sim at educational pricing for personal purposes (in that she runs it herself rather than representing a RL entity): she uses it to host live music and other cultural events, along with a gallery. The only reason that qualifies is because of her RL profession, nothing more, so it is a bit short-sighted on LL's part. Any other resident wanting to do the same thing would pay $295/month instead of $150/month. If you happen to have a teacher in your inner circle or family, they can get a sim at educational pricing although you do pay for a year in advance rather than every month.

If she's not using it for educational purposes she could be in trouble: Important note regarding Educational and Non-profit pricing: If Linden Lab determines at any time, at its sole discretion, that an island is not being used for educational or non-profit purposes, either in part or in whole, Linden Lab reserves the right to cancel all related billing agreements and accounts, and/or bill retroactively for past usage at standard rates. Please contact billing through the support portal with any questions regarding this policy BEFORE submitting an island order.

From: Snowflake Fairymeadow If she's not using it for educational purposes she could be in trouble She's had the sim longer than I've been on SL so I don't think there's much danger of that still . She doesn't charge any money and I'd be surprised if cultural events and exhibits don't qualify as "educational". The point I was trying to make though is that I think it's quite short-sighted of LL to only look at RL credentials, rather than the value of the in-world project. I think it's fair that she gets educational pricing for what she does with her sim, but it shouldn't just be limited to having the right piece of RL paper. There are plenty of non-profit in-world projects that are more deserving of being subsidized by LL in my opinion than some university's deserted virtual campus noone cares about.
