Sometimes it's sunny in sl and the sea is deep blue, sometimes it's a more clouded day. I know the time of day (sun) can be controlled on a sim, but the weather too?

I think a sim owner can put snow and the such on their land, and I know a sim where it's always raining (I love it there!), but I'm not how it's done. *bump*

There's a cloud machine that can control weather on large and small scales. I found it on SLX:
http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=52370 I have it running on my sim Tangiwai where it's always dark and raining. The system isn't too difficult to set up, and works quite well. -Atashi _____________________

I bought one just for my parcel, I can have a light rain turn into a storm with a tornado, then clear up sunny again

Lindman Weather
03-06-2008 10:59
I am a very satisfied customer of the Lindman weather system that allows you to connect with a RL weather website and mimic those exact weather conditions in SL. The system offers moving invisible prims, either for areas with homes (less movement, better precision to get the rain outside) or without. At the click of a button you can set up the one prim server, then dispatch your choice of 'weather engines', wear a HUD or put out a console for others to use (one of which is a really neat world map that can trigger weather 'shows' for them with preset locations across it) and you're pretty much done.
The system also offers preset weather conditions that don't change if you'd rather have more 'reliable' scenarios like constant fog, rain, snow, and even lightning. The sound effects are well done, the particle effects are very good, and the lag is extremely minimal! I also like the fact that when you're ready for winter, you can rez ice prims over all Linden waterways you may have. Also worth mentioning is that there are some incredible updates coming our way from the creator, Ludvaig Lindman, who is one of the friendliest and most helpful creators of such an advanced item. From what I understand you'll be able to control your weather offline and much more. Check it out! No i don't work for him or get a kick back- just very very satisfied ![]() http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=488896 _____________________

Anyone know of a weather system that will automatically switch the weather? Mine you command it to do this or that, nothing autonymous The one I linked to has a 'random' function but I haven't played with it. It also has a 'scripting interface' so you could set up your own 'randomizing' script that changed the weather randomly. I did that for a bit, to have the rain randomly switch to a meteor shower ![]() -Atashi _____________________

What about something where you could do rain from 8-11 AM, sunshine for an hour, snow from 1-3, then a tornado for 30 minutes....etc.

So weather control can't be done with the estate tools? Is it controlled centrally by the SL engine then?

that feature is coming i believe on the Lindman weather system... for now however, you can link it up to accuweather.com and the weather will change as the RL weather changes for the location of your choice globally!!! the only thing it doesn't have are tornadoes :/ you won't need those often LOL so i bought that separately from Tryptofaa Sands ![]() _____________________

So weather control can't be done with the estate tools? Is it controlled centrally by the SL engine then? no, one can't make it rain or anything like that with estate tools...rain for example is either a particle downpour or a texture moving across boxes...the SL generated wind, clouds and supposed temperature readings that can be accessed are the only forms of 'weather' LL supplies. _____________________

by having your debug menu on >alt /contol/ "D" under client>rendering >types >clouds you can turn off Linden clouds, right below "types" in features you can turn off fog, both combined makes "its a nice clear day at sea , sir."

Subversive, how does the Lindman thing affect lag and/or sim performance?

With the debug option. So there is no way to turn fog and clouds off, so ALL visitors on my sim see a sunny day? |

At Fhelzgud we have a dispenser at the landing points giving our customers a notecard with instructions on how to do it. I should I suppose ad a counter not able to say how many actually use it . Fhelzgud is in Sammamish with extreme fog & clouds make it neccesary. I only wish turning off the clouds & fog was like disabling the camerra constraints that would remember between log in the settings , at the moment still required to turn them off on each log in grrr
