Has anyone else been having the problem where your computer frezzes up anytime you try to run SL?
If so how did you solve it? I sometimes can't even get past login.

Has anyone else been having the problem where your computer frezzes up anytime you try to run SL? If so how did you solve it? I sometimes can't even get past login. First thing, clear your cache. Start SL, don't login. Under the edit menu, go to preferences, Network and clear the network cache. Quit SL and start it again, see if it works. If that doesn't, try starting at a different location. Start SL, go to preferences, General and change the start location to home, or select a location and type in something like purple, brown or some other region you want to go to. If you're using the Snowglobe viewer, uninstall it and go back to the regular viewer. _____________________

Check your graphics settings, you might have them set too high for your system, especially draw distance, and every time you move it spends the time drawing and can't do anything else.

SL is very VERY hard on your machine. The mos tlikely thing is either an underpowered system for it or a system with parts failing.
That said It can also be a location thing so try to find a totally empty sim somewhere and see if it still happens. ALso dialing down your preferences for video might help. Wanders off to bed cussing his own dying video boards. ![]() |

clearing caches of browser and network , though you may delete temp internet files and should sepertely from using the clear cache buttons in sl preferences, sometimes it doesn't
, best to check by start>IE>Properties>setting (under browser history)>view files, selecting all then deleting, then deleting again all temp files, history and cookies.a good registry cleaner(I use eusing free registry cleaner, have found this to be essential) De-fragging hard drive esp. if you havn't or been a long time and esp if you've downloaded much (this could take several hours if youve not done it before , so be prepared) running Hijack now and making sure your puter clean all good to do. if I have been online a while I will disconnect internet connections or repair connection to clean cache there as well make sure all drivers (esp video card driver)are up to date and running latest direct x, q-time etc. My partners puter recently had the freeze issue real bad turned out to be her video card driver needed updating anyway those a few things that would help or should lol, gl. |

Darkness needs to git a Mac too. Pass. Lot fewer compatibility issues with a PC and runs faster at half the cost. Graphic processing? Get a Sun. [ETA] ![]() |

And last but not least, before actually deciding that your graphics card or machine is just underpowered, check to see if the inside of the case needs to be cleared of dust accumulation. I always know when the inside of my case is getting dusty cuz either my video card will get hotter faster or my SL will simply crash more often.

We have had several instances where this was the culprit for puter weirdness lol ![]() |

If we are talking about SL (the program itself) freezing or crashing, then clearing the cache, lowering settings in preferrences, logging into a quiet sim, etc might help your problem. But, if we are talking about a system freezing up, locking up or crashing (which is how I read the initial post), then there's probably something a little more serious going on with the computer. First thing to check is for dust build up inside the case........if you are using a desktop, take the side off, get a can of compressed air and blow all the dust out (fans, intake, exhaust openings, and power supply). Second, get a monitoring program and monitor your temps while running SL (I use PC Wizard, 2008. It's free.....google it). Check for a new driver for you graphics card. Run your defrag utility. Scan your computer for maleware/virus.......a complete scan, not the quick one.
System specs would help a great deal for any other guesses that may cause your problem. But, system lock up/freeze is much more serious than a program doing the same. System problems indicate that the operating system or major hardware components (such as video adapters) are having trouble. Up to and including pending failures. |
