Its been patchy all day for me, various sims ive been in have had the blue message of doom "this sim is closing in 5 mins for maintenance*...and now, i got dumped..and when i try to log in get a message ive never seen before

"we're having trouble connecting, there maybe a problem with your internet connection or the second life servers." It then offers you the chance to teleport home (but just dumps you again when you try.

usually it just blames YOU not mentions it MIGHT be them? lol

whats going on? I thought the rolling restarts are completed yesterday

Got kicked out of my own region this morning, so it must still be going on.

There is a thread somewhere stating that they would be doing rolling restarts Mon, Tues and Thurs to implement new server 1.27.1. Sure hope the new version is better than 1.27.0. :(

[Resolved] Rolling Restart for 1.27.1 the week of 2009-07-27

[Resolved July 30, 11:18 AM PDT] The rolling restarts have completed. Thank you for your patience.

I can't get in at all, it just keeps giving me spurious messages.

It could be a rerun of this..

I just contacted Support, since I crashed out on a region crossing and keep getting 'DNS could not resolve hostname' errors when I try to log back in. Appparently they are having login issues which are throwing up DNS errors, and are working to fix it as quickly as possible.

Oh, thank goodness. I thought it was just me, since it's raining in my area and my internet connection prefers to hide under the covers at the mere thought of rain..

I haven't run into any region restarts, but the connecting issue cropped up. I got in.. and now I'm afraid to log out!

I get that one every once in a while...but when it happens, it's something at my end. A reboot of the DSL modem, the router, and the computer generally fixes it.

/me read something recently about them retiring login servers and that people might get DNS errors if they had funky login settings. I thought that wasn't until next week though, and I can't remember where I saw the notice.. :\

edit: found it!

From: LL
On Monday, 3 August, we’ll be turning off some old IP addresses on our login servers.

These IP addresses have not been in active rotation for over a month, meaning that Residents who use “normal” login procedures won’t notice their loss.

However, we’ve identified a small number of Residents who, at their own initiative or as an attempt to debug various Support requests, have customized their logins with the –LoginURI command line option to point to one of the decommissioned addresses.

It is also possible that some Residents will see their logins failing due to stale DNS caches, either local to their machines or (less likely) maintained by their respective ISPs.

We’ve emailed those Residents who have been employing direct logins.

In the event you find your own login disrupted next Monday, we suggest you first refresh your local DNS cache.

...

...and it does indeed say not until next week.
