Hi everyone,

I am brand new to SL. I thought I was pretty good at figuring things out having played other MMORPGs before, but I have to tell you...thei is the MOST FRUSTRATING game I have ever tried...please, please help!

I managed to find a way to a store....and now I can not leave.

I have tried for the past hour to teleport to "Help People Island" as a last ditch effort to try to figure this game out....but everytime I try to teleport, the game crashes completely. Everytime.

I can't find anyone to chat with to ask for help..

I have to log in twice afterwards...the first time, I am stuck in a crouching position and can not move....so I have log out and log in again....

I have no idea what to do...I opened a "ticket"...but I figure I would try coming here....

any help would be so greatly appreciated!

Log out and set your log in location to home . And not your last location. Teleports sometimes fail trying to leave another region.

Hit ctrl-p on your keyboard to open your preferences and click the general tab. At the top is your start location. Set that to home and also check the box to show start location at log in screen so you can have quick access to change your login location with ease.
You can also use that login location to manually type the region name you wish to login at

I don't know the answer to your problem, but I didn't want you to think nobody is listening. I'm at work right now otherwise I'd try sending you a TP. Hope your problem gets resolved soon.

Go into preferences.

On the "general" tab (I think it's the top one) you should see something near the top that says "show location on start page" something like that. Turn it on, then press OK and then quit the SL Program.

Then start it up again, and you should see a drop-down menu that has "My Last Location". Click on that and change it either to "My Home" or to the "type a destination" option (you can then type any sim name you like. "Omidyar" should be emptyish.)

Then click log in as normal, and you should appear in the new location.

First of all, welcome to SL, Kalen. It's good that you found your way to the forum. Lots of helpful people here. :)

Now as for escaping from the store, that should be pretty easy: Just select a different logon location.

You do that as follows:

1) On the login screen, before logging on, press Ctrl-P. This will display your preferences.
2) On the "General" tab, tick the box next to "Show Start Location on Login Screen". Then press "OK".
3) Now you have a "Start location" box beneath your logon parameters.
4) Select another place instead of "My Last Location". For example:
* Sif/128/128 ... which is a water sim; no lag there!
* Jingbo/147/146/21 ... which is my little glade by the sea. Everyone is welcome there. :)

Good luck & hang in there! The learning curve is gruelling, but you'll get it for sure with time!

Log out. Restart the client. Before you log back in, click the start location tab under your name and change it to <type region name>. Overtype these words with any region name... Blue, Osmium, Fourmile, anything but the place you were stuck. You should log in as close the centre of that region as you are allowed.

As I recall, this is not active by default... and must first be enabled in preferences.

Thank you so much for the quick replies...I actually solved the problem shortly after...in a strange way..

ok..when I was able to do a clean login...

I searched and found a "lag meter"...which listed client as "red"... (too many complex objects" was the detail..

so I..flew to the edge of the property...with empty space....until my meter turned green...then I was able to teleport...

yikes...that certainly wasn't a user friendly solution!

I will be applying all the advice listed here..

Thanks so much!

Darn, you found the loophole. I set that store up so that you have to buy everything first, before you can leave. :D

aha, this might be down to my using a third-party viewer for so long I forgot it might not be the same as the official one.

Suggest then that you go into preferences and set the draw distance for your graphics to a lower setting. From what you said, your graphics card isn't capable of dealing well with a relatively full sim or group of sims. A shorter draw distance will fix that and reduce your lag.

if you are wearing a bunch of prims you may want to pull them off also when you get stuck..i know that helps at times..
