Hello Everyone.
I'd like to pose a question to the more experienced merchants out there and also shoppers for that matter.
I've just started a little business in SL and am renting a shop. The shop I'm renting is in a 'shopping sim' and is more expensive (100 prim) than a smaller one (50 prim) I could get on the same sim. So for now I can get all my stuff in there. I also have a friend's place that I use that can hold everything I've made and then some.
Since I'm a new merchant, I don't know how popular my items will be. So far I've made back almost twice what my rent is for the larger shop in a little less than a week, but I was thinking of moving to a smaller one so that I could more easily make the rent and hopefully more profit. hehe
What I was wondering is, if I put out a landmark giver to my friend's place where all my stuff is, would you as a potential customer bother with it? Of course if you liked what you saw and wanted to see more there would be a greater chance, but if not, would I be better off keeping the larger store where I could display more at once but possibly operate at a loss? What would you do?
Thanks in advance. - Dallas

If I am at all interested in the items in a store, I take a lm and TP to the main store. I think it is worth a try. Good Luck!

Yes, but don't just put a LM giver. Show some of your best items, and if you sell things in different categories, some of the different types in the prim space left. Make clear it's only a small selection of your stuff. (There's enough people in SL only selling 2 items And put out your LM giver in a (good) picture of the full store. Preferable PS'ed up, and with a nice logo. In small shops, it's all about the 'presence' you create...

Personally, I dislike auto-givers, and I decline everything that's given by them. I've always had LM givers in multiple places in my store, with floating text to tell people to click it for an LM to the store. I prefer it that way because, for me, auto-givers are intrusive.
I'm in the process of moving my store, but I'm taking time over it, and I currently have the old and the new stores up and running. I've placed unmissable signs around the old one, telling people that the store is moving very soon, and suggesting that they click the sign for an LM to the new one. Those who want an LM take it, and I've no wish to push it onto people who don't want it.

A click-to-get landmark giver is much preferable over an auto-giver triggered by a sensor or collision, that's for sure. And I definitely use landmarks I get that way.
It's a good idea to keep track of how many landmarks are given out at a remote location, and how many of them are followed by a TP by the same avatar within some interval. Otherwise one may erroneously conclude that a remote location isn't helping your business because nothing is selling there, when what's really happening is that the remote display is so appealing that it's generating most of the traffic at the main location.

QUOTE] Agreed. But I just automatically decline any "give" that I haven't asked for myself. On top of that, as a customer, not only do I not have your LM, but I'm at least vaguely irritated that you, the merchant, has joined the spam contingent and are spamming me with things.

Thanks for your suggestions folks. =]
I'm using a LM giver that you have to click on, agreed on the pesky autogivers being a turnoff. Also like your idea of adding a picture of one's full store, thanks Damanios.
