I haven't been to SL very long - but have bought a shape and skin that I love, however my one problem is with the shape - I purposly bought one that is abit curvier, since that is more like me in rl - now I have problems getting clothes that look right on my av - they are all made for the super skiny model type avs not my realistic looking beauty. LOL. Since the shape is able to be modified I made the hips, butt and waist skinnier, but I really am not happy with it that way. I liked it the way I bought it, just need clothes to fit.
So my question is - does anyone know of a store on sl that caters to the 'curvier' avs?

Mostly I can't even wear boots 'off the shelf', her calves are too chunky for them. Like you I wear a mod shape, and often need to 'tweak' clothes. If they aren't tweakable, I trash 'em. There are a couple shops I"ve found for curvier avs, one is in Honeybear's mall in Cherry Park and is owned by one of our Forum members here (somebody provide her name?) Or she was there, anyway. I've also found that clothes by Chez Gabrielle seem to actually fit over Treasure's azz ok without tweaking. I used to take her body down a click or two in order to fit into clothes but I don't do that anymore. If not easily tweaked, the outfit gets deleted.

Hi Sunny. It's a blogger fashion challenge going on now: Basically it is about SL fashion bloggers adjusting their shapes up and post a pic in their new shape. I am sure you can find some inspiration there. This is a curvy avatar with her own blog: High boots can be tricky to fit. Bax Cohen's new boots can be resized all ways, meaning you can fit bigger calves in them without the boot ending up too tall. I just have to ask, since you mention that you are rather new: You know how to edit prim clothes? Even if I'm a rather standard size, I mod my clothes all the time. Sometimes prims are too big, sometimes too small.

I have some of the same problems. And I am not all that chunky either. I wear a lot of pants. I try not to buy and dresses or skirts that are no mod. For short skirts I just edit and scale them up to go over my hips. Since most short skirts are too short to start off with this is usually an easy fix. I almost never have to change much on formals. I have noticed several designers now making the prim gowns with three lower attachments; one in the center and one on each hip. This helps with the problem of the leg sticking out on some of the closer fitting gowns. (see below) And of course, for system skirts I have a copy of my shape with the butt at zero and the saddlebags reduced. What I have a hard time finding are causal, tea-length dresses. They seldom scale up very well. If anyone knows a good place for knee length skirt that are made for the "I eat red meat" crowd I would love to find out where.

I found one knee length dress that actually fit pretty good -- I'll have to look when I get home where I got it from -- its pretty and stylish looking and I don't believe I tweaked that one at all.

I'm afraid that is one of the things that comes with being plus-size in SL, you have to either learn to modify prim clothing, or avoid it. Little Rebel Designs had a fantastic selection of really well made system skirts, it was a sad day for me when Jonquille Noir decided to close it down.

Boots! I went on a shopping spree just last week for over the calf boots. My favorite ones from the several I bought were from ZHAO. I was hesitant at first since they are no mod but they come in 3 sizes in the box; Small, Medium and Tall. The tall ones alre tall and thin. The medium fit me like I was the build model. I was very pleased with the fit and the looks are vampish too. Maybe we should start a plus size fashion store. We could put a tiny prim in each skirt so they would only reduce so far

A Few Tips
09-10-2009 14:56
I'm 50 on the sliders but only 7 for height on SL so you can imagine my shopping experience. I tend to make my own clothes. It's more fun and I can usually get something wearable.
One big bonus with being chunky is that texture skirts work if you pull the slider to zero for width. These make a nice modern sheath, and the gapping that plagues skinny avatarot, is minimal.
Also, there is a free version of Looprez for making your own prim skirts. If you give them a waist band roll this is not that difficult.

Shop at Bare Rose - everything is mod, near as I know. I have actual hips as well myself, but I usually don't have too many problems. Only now and again do I end up needing to modify. - I guess I'm a lot milder in curve than you folks, but still a lot more than I tend to see wandering around SL.

I recently got a pair of boots from *Thalia* that have an invisiprim base... Yay, I can wear them on ALL my shapes right out of the box!
ETA: The invisiprim covers the ENTIRE calf, so the boots don't require any fitting. The boot in question is called Zipped and comes in various colors.

Boots? LOL - so far I have found one pair that I can actually wear and look good on me - you know without showing my calf through the boot - yikes - who knew shopping could be so hard on sl?!

From: Sunny Greymoon So my question is - does anyone know of a store on sl that caters to the 'curvier' avs? Not a single (still existing) shop has been offered so far in this thread. I see a gaping hole in the market here... hello, designers? However, I think this would be an extremely difficult niche to cater to, because "curvy" AV's seem to come in such a variety of shapes that prim skirts would never fit all of them.

I really can't tell you how reassuring it is to hear that so many other people have problems with boots! I thought I just had abnormally thick calves! And I HATE adjusting them, because I don't like looking like I am balancing on toothpicks.
If it weren't so dangerous, I'd suggest combining this thread with the Frankenbarbie one: SL can be doubly difficult if you are both curvy AND relatively short (5'10" in my case).
