Looking for someone to help me organize a yard sale

Hi There,

I have been playing SL since about 2003 (on this account and one other) and I have a massive inventory of 20,000 items that I have bought over all of that time, which I estimate to be worth more than 100,000 lindens in total.

I do not play second life very much anymore, so I am therefore looking for someone to help me find a location where I can hold a yard sale to clear out some of my inventory. I would need land to have the yard sale on, plus I would need advertising for it done.

I am willing to pay whoever can orangise this for me, 25% of anything I make from the event.

Anyone interested? If so, please IM me in the game.

One suggestion I can think of: There are people whose business in SL is holding continual yardsales/selling used items. I wish I had some names to share, but I've seen a LOT of them pop up when I'm usually searching for something else (go figure...lol).

Their profiles usually say something like "I will buy any inventory you don't want anymore." Obviously they will buy low and then sell higher, but if you want to sell your items quickly, it's worth talking to one or two.

I would try the terms "yardsale" or "selling inventory" or something similar in All search.

I thought of doing this, once, to reduce my inventory; on looking carefully through it, realized most of the stuff I'd like to get rid of is no transfer. so it's still there because I don't have the heart to just delete it, which is the only option for a no trans item.

An issue with that much stuff is you will want the sale to be ongoing and not just a one-time event. So try to find a person who will let you use their land or estate for a few weeks or a month or even two.

Contrary to popular belief, there aren't that many people running around SL at any given time with a lot of $L to spend.

So I am not going to be able to fleece them all........ um, I mean, make my millions overnight?

I am actually considering hosting a permanent one - IM me to talk about it if you want.

Also anyone who has tips for me, feel free to IM me about that too. In SL please.

It's just an idea I've been thinking about.

I actually have tons of stuff that I can Transfer, but I just cannot seem to make myself get all set up for a yard sale -- take pics, box it, set it all out, advertise, etc....

Soon I will...

really, I will

I'm really very seriously considering it. Open to feedback and ideas and tips. :)

My main question at this point would be HOW. How to make the price split, with a small commission maybe 10 percent to me, and the rest to the person selling it? Or do people rent short term stalls or booths to people. I dunno.

(I've seen yard sales that looked like people just threw things on the grass, and I don't want to do it that way either. Would want it to be appealing to shop in.)

I assume it would be a script and the objects set into a flat prim each, with a pic on it of the item, and a script that splits the price, but I dunno. Someone was going to try and work on such a script but was out of time.

I have been in the process of boxing up things to sell, so I would be interested in joining your "perma" yard sale Clarissa. I am not sure how we would work the money sharing. I am honest enough that I can just pay you lindens manually, but not everyone is like that I guess............Let me know how you would like to do it cos I have hundreds of items to sell.

That exists, search on scripting tips I believe one or two free versions are available there. First of al play with them though, do tests with friends.

The money splitting scripts are around, just ask in a script group. I bought one but people said I shouldn't have there are so many for free.

Setting up vendors with split profits is a LOT of work if you have tons of items to sell.

For a large number of items I suggest this:

Make folders in your inventory by type and/or selling price "Designer Dresses 100L each"

Sort out your for sale stuff into the folders

Take a screen capture snapshot of your inventory. You can open multiple inventory windows with the inventory File > New window menu item, and get 150-200 items at a time on a large monitor.

Post the images online, or upload as textures and put in a box, so people can see what you have.

Advertise

Then they can contact you to buy items when they want them.

Well I am serious about doing this, if people are interested I am happy to try and help.

I tossed around some ideas this morning as I was waking up - Everything from a small fee for the space taken up or the amount of items, or to a tip after, or to a percentage on the honor system, or to a container with the consignment fee script built into it, as someone had suggested to me off forums before this thread was posted. (They have a gallery, so, I figured they must deal with consignments regularly.)

I'm open to whatever is the most practical. I'm not in it for the gettin' rich, more for a communally beneficial project and to be honest, something to do that sounds fun. Who didn't like going to yard sales as a kid.

How about this. Anyone interested, would or could you please, send me a note card in world, with any thoughts you have, in any area of this venture. From what you'd want on your end, I don't mean the $L I mean how you'd want it to go, from what you'd want it to look like, time frame, anything you want to add I'm all ears.

I'm picturing something that is nice to wander through, or at least not so messy as most places I've seen. Also any legal tips such as if it gets to people I don't know at all, how to make sure it's not copybot items, or things like that. So, all input is very welcome. If you just want to send a NC saying count me in, that's welcome too. No one *has* to help me figure it out, just saying I see it as a communal venture.

I'm happy it's gotten some support. Thanks!

(Oh - PS if anyone has freebie scripts or script advice, please send. Lol)
