Other than leave the group.. I don't know of any.. there is a setting that allows you to not receive announcements but I am not sure if that affects IMs.

Once a group chat starts, you can leave it by x'ing out from the communications box. It won't pop up again that session.
Or leave the group.

If you use the Nicholaz client you can filter out chat by group. It is slightly fiddly, using the debug menu, but it works.
